This custom Halloween nun look went through a long process from fabric selection to finalizing the pattern. To introduce festive elements into the classic black habit, I made numerous adjustments to the tailoring and accessories. The main habit was crafted from a matte fabric with slight stretch, while the long black sleeves used semi-sheer chiffon, creating an alluring, translucent layering effect on camera without feeling heavy. The crisp white square collar and the prominent cross on the chest serve as the visual focal points, intentionally rendered in high-contrast white so they pop instantly even against dim backgrounds.

The most meticulously designed aspects were the high slit on the skirt and the leg styling. To give the silhouette a sleek, sultry edge, I added a side slit paired underneath with Black stockings featuring cross-strap elements. I personally love this blend of deconstructed edge and religious iconography. The strap tension was readjusted several times to ensure they hugged the contours of the legs cleanly without pinching or leaving unflattering indentations. The crimson-eye makeup was another core focus: to balance the blonde hair, I deepened the outer eye contours with generous sweeps of dark-red eyeshadow, pairing them with bright red contact lenses to evoke a dangerous, enigmatic gothic vibe.

For the wig, I textured and styled the strands to keep them looking natural. When securing the blue-feathered accessory and white veil, pin placement had to be precise to avoid crushing the hair's volume. The first photo was taken in front of stained-glass doors, where the ambient light lent an authentic vintage cathedral feel. We added subtle fill light from an upper angle to illuminate the facial contours and eye makeup, making the red eyes catch vivid specular highlights. The textured silver cross pendant proved to be a fantastic prop for interaction—holding it near the lips with downcast eyes added a cinematic narrative layer to the shot.

The second photo is a mirror selfie taken on-site when I ran into a cosplaying friend and we snapped a quick shot together. Mirror selfies offer an effortless, relaxed vibe; having the phone partially obscure the face shifted full focus to the costume's silhouette and leg lines. When shooting gothic or sultry cosplay styles, fluid body posture is crucial. For instance, when bringing the cross close to the lips, keeping the arm naturally bent and the shoulders relaxed prevents any stiffness. In mirror selfies, standing at a slight three-quarter angle with one leg subtly extended forward visually elongates the legs while fully displaying the slit skirt and stocking strap details.

A nun habit's quality hinges heavily on its clean drape, so thorough ironing before shooting is non-negotiable to keep the fabric lines smooth. For outdoor shoots with heavy makeup, keeping oil-blotting sheets and setting spray on hand is essential, as dark eyeshadow and colored contacts can smudge during long sessions. Additionally, metallic accessories like crosses catch prominent highlights; angling them correctly can illuminate the entire shot. Though this custom design started as a spontaneous idea, obsessing over the fine details paid off, and the final atmosphere captured my vision perfectly.
