From the moment I received Durandal's Palatinus Equinox armor to actually putting it on, it took quite a bit of time to make adjustments. The framework and shoulder pauldrons carry noticeable weight, giving a very real sense of pressure on the shoulders that perfectly reflects the character's resilient fortitude. I spent a long time styling the hair; the blonde wig with white highlights on the sides was styled to faithfully match the hair flow from the original design. For eye makeup, bright blue contact lenses served as the base, paired with reddish eyeshadow and dense lashes to give the gaze a sharper edge.
The costume fabric itself is structured and crisp. The generous use of black leather texture paired with the white base fabric, along with signature patterns across the chest and waist, creates crisp silhouettes where the tailored cut naturally flatters body contours without needing forced poses. The metallic blue claws in hand are the most eye-catching accessory of this look—the slightly curved fingertips look fierce and dynamic whether resting at the waist or raised near the face. Cross emblems on the shoulders and metal fasteners at the collar further enrich the intricate detailing.
Since this shoot was mainly for Cosplay selfies, the focus was on the camera focus of the eyes and expression control. Without needing complex sets, finding a clean indoor background and controlling the lens distance myself worked best. I adjusted angles several times so frontal light hit the face while preserving highlights on the armor. This pose felt the most natural: one hand on the hip, leaning slightly forward toward the lens, with the weapon on the other side, perfectly showcasing the majestic aura of the armor. The whole process tested my patience because dressing was cumbersome and some accessories shifted easily, requiring repeated adjustments in the mirror. Even for a selfie session, approaching the costume with dedication was essential to convey Durandal's dignified and dependable presence.
The trickiest part of this outfit lies in its zipper and collar construction. To ensure a snug fit, the bodysuit's elasticity is quite limited, requiring assistance when zipping up. In particular, the connection between the shoulder pauldrons and gauntlets couldn't be fastened too tightly without hindering finger mobility. During the selfie shoot, I spent significant time adjusting the placement of the claws on my palm to ensure they stayed secure without leaving deep pressure marks. Furthermore, the blue metallic paint finish is quite delicate and chips easily upon slight scraping, which made me extra careful when posing.
When adjusting facial expressions, I noticed that under cool-toned lenses, the face easily appeared pale, so I dialed up the blush and carefully adjusted the placement of the false lashes. For lighting, instead of harsh studio strobes, I set up a soft fill light in front to soften facial features, while utilizing indoor ambient lighting to create distinct contrast across the black armor. After trying various angles, slightly tilting my head down while looking up maintained the character's imposing presence without appearing overly aggressive. The bodysuit cut keeps body lines taut and restricts movement, which, paired with the black leather belt at the waist, visually elongated my proportions nicely.
Storing the accessories also requires care; the three claws on my hand are usually kept in dust bags. I sometimes worry about them getting crushed when heading out, and while I bumped them slightly during today's shoot, fortunately no scratches were left behind. The fabric treatments on this costume are fascinating—some areas have a matte finish while others are glossy, creating varied dimensional layers even on the same textile under lighting. However, because the dressing process took so long, I only took selfies today. Hydration and eye care during the shoot were tricky: wearing false lashes and contacts meant no rubbing the eyes, so movements had to be gentle, yet the poses demanded a powerful, martial presence—a fun and interesting contrast.
Since the Palatinus Equinox form naturally carries a majestic, commanding aura, I didn't need overly exaggerated facial expressions while shooting; maintaining a focused gaze and taut, poised body language was enough to capture that essence. While Cosplay selfies come with certain compositional limitations, this format most directly reflects my genuine state without the pressure of a staged shoot, making sharing this firsthand armor dressing experience deeply fulfilling. This indoor selfie session is just the beginning—when time allows, I plan to coordinate with friends for an outdoor shoot to capture the armor's texture in sunlight and that unstoppable, valiant spirit.
