This time at the Chengdu World Line Anime Exhibition, I finally got to shoot the Swimsuit cosplay version of Elysia from Honkai Impact 3rd to my heart's content. This outfit has a lot of details, especially the white ruffles and the semi-sheer blue outerwear, paired with a pearl necklace and starfish decorations, making it exceptionally refreshing to wear. The wig is a custom pink gradient, and I adjusted the curls at the ends several times to recreate that sense of lightness.
Picture four is one I'm quite satisfied with; the swim ring serves as a prop that holds up the balance of the entire frame, and the light hitting the plastic material reveals a pale purple tint, matching the light-colored attire perfectly. The venue's floor-to-ceiling windows provided great light, but with the heavy foot traffic at the convention, we specifically looked for a corner with a reflective floor, using the mirror reflection to enrich the layers of the image.
The last three shots basically preserve the original tones without excessive color grading; the skin texture is natural, and the white balance is accurate. You can tell the ambient light on-site leans cool, but the overall atmosphere is highly refreshing. For picture one, I experimented with a different post-processing style, darkening the background to highlight the person, but in the end, I felt the sunny vibe fit the swimsuit theme much better.
The difficulty in shooting this look lies in maintaining a stretched and elegant posture; since the skirt is quite short, both sitting and standing poses require careful angles to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions. Additionally, standing barefoot on the smooth floor required staying steady to prevent slipping. Many friends at the convention recognized Elysia, and some even praised the blue glitter in the eye makeup for being so sparkly. It was actually paired with matching colored contact lenses, which, along with the eyeshadow, truly made the eyes look more spirited.
The prop swim ring was brought along and inflated on-site. Holding it up continuously during the shoot was actually quite exhausting, but it was completely worth it to present the best results. During the shoot, we also received some help from passing photographers, as everyone was looking for the best camera angles.
The lesson from this experience is that doing a Swimsuit cosplay at an indoor convention requires staying warm because the air conditioning is very strong. Fortunately, the shoot went quickly, and the main composition was completed in half an hour. Once the final prints came out, I felt quite satisfied with the level of recreation, especially since the folds of the skirt hem and the orientation of the headpiece were perfectly in place for these Convention photos.
