The entire focus of this shoot was placed on recreating Arturia's distant, aloof elegance. The black-and-white dress utilized a fabric with a graceful drape, and the gold-thread embroidery along the neckline and skirt trim showed incredible texture under cool lighting. What took the most thought was the leg coordination: over-the-knee black stockings paired with thin strap accents on the thighs, plus a striking pair of red-soled high heels, visually elongated the leg lines wonderfully and added a touch of cold allure to the overall look. The delicate asymmetrical black crown prop on the head was very exquisite, though it certainly tested the wearing angle and stability, requiring several adjustments during the shoot.
The coordination with props was a major highlight of this photoshoot. That massive black-and-white musical instrument was exceptionally heavy; holding it in hand not only required substantial core strength to maintain the pose, but also demanded an intentional appearance of nonchalant ease. Yet it was precisely this authentic weight that naturally brought out a sense of restraint and languor in every gesture, bringing me even closer to the character's world-weary detachment. To evoke her state of mind—as if drifting aloofly outside the mundane world—the photographer used smoke pellets on site, combined with cool-toned rim lights and softboxes, to create an ethereal, misty, and solitary atmosphere.
In terms of posing and expressions, side-seated and kneeling postures were primarily used to present the character's pride. During the shoot, subtle micro-expressions like slightly tilting the head, half-closing the eyes, and lifting the chin were used to interpret that paradoxical tension of listening to the heart while keeping everyone at arm's length. I particularly love the first shot where I sat sideways, raised my hand, and exhaled smoke—the trajectory and drift of the smoke matched the chilly sharpness in the eyes perfectly, and the transition of light and shadow across the black-and-white outfit was remarkably natural. The white chains, birdcage, and scattered flowers arranged in the Photography studio served as fantastic accents, breaking the monotony of the black-and-white tone and giving the whole set a deeper narrative feel.
The details on the gloves were also a standout: the long black patent-leather gloves featured delicate metal buckles, adding a ceremonial flair to hand gestures that, combined with the baton and instrument, brought out a powerful sense of control. The long straight hair was meticulously styled as well; the blunt bangs framing the head shape revealed a sleek, silky sheen under the lights, harmonizing perfectly with the character's temperament.
For the post-processing of this set, we preserved sharp, crisp edges and cool color grading without excessive softening, striving to faithfully recreate the character's cold and ascetic aura. Seeing myself capture the soul of the 2D character through diverse angles and techniques brings a profound sense of accomplishment, which is truly the greatest joy of every shoot.
