We selected an open-air outdoor swimming pool for this shoot under blazing, intense sunlight. Recreating Anchorage's swimsuit look required considerable preparation beforehand. The swimwear featured a white bikini paired with sheer lace arm sleeves and gossamer tulle; though visually light and airy, harsh outdoor glare easily washes out makeup, requiring frequent touch-ups and sunscreen reapplications. To add visual interest, the lace choker and blue-and-white headband were carefully adjusted, while wearing White stockings outdoors demanded immense caution to prevent snags. Our main prop was a colossal black-and-white inflatable orca float, which took considerable stamina just to inflate and haul to the poolside.
For the first shot, I sat on the wooden deck with my legs crossed to organically elongate lower-body lines on camera, lightly pinching a corner of the sheer fabric so the gentle breeze could create a sense of dynamic motion. For the second shot, I leaned against the orca float, using it as a support point while tilting my torso slightly sideways, resting one hand along the float's edge with a dreamy, relaxed gaze faithful to her gentle, slightly languid charm. The toughest hurdle in outdoor photography is managing sunlight; we leveraged water surface reflections to bounce natural fill onto the face, giving skin textures a luminous, translucent glow. Makeup featured a dewy base paired with pink contact lenses, with earth-toned eyeshadow layered with fine shimmer to accentuate soft eye warmth. Outdoor breezes easily made the wig frizzy, so wig detangling spray and clips were kept on hand to smooth stray strands immediately.
Beyond prioritizing framing aesthetics, safety around the pool was paramount, especially since moving along wet decking in thigh-high hosiery can be tricky. Fortunately, the final selects exceeded expectations—the blue waters and open sky framed the crisp white swimwear cleanly. Every detail, from styling to location, aimed to make the character feel vibrant and organic within a summer seaside setting. I hope this set brings everyone a breath of summer freshness while revealing a charming new side of Anchorage.
