Today's styling brings Ellen Joe's iconic shark-girl design to life (Ellen Joe cosplay & Zenless Zone Zero). The overall wardrobe is a bold fusion of a Maid outfit and Techwear; under the deceptively obedient black-and-white palette lie plenty of hardcore details. Starting with the clothing coordination: the top is a black short-sleeved blouse with white ruffles adorning the collar and shoulders—classic Maid outfit elements that look clean and sharp against the black base. However, silver-grey metallic spiked studs accent the shoulders and cuffs, while multiple black leather belts with silver buckles crisscross around the waist, instantly shifting the aesthetic into sharp Techwear territory. The skirt features an asymmetrical black-and-white color-blocked hemline with black geometric cutout details. To complement this styling, I deliberately paired sheer Black stockings (Black stockings) accented with diamond-patterned cutout strap details, combined with black chunky-heeled Mary Janes to visually elongate body proportions. The wig is a short two-tone black-and-pink cut, with straight bangs and hime-cuts framing facial contours beautifully. For makeup, reddish-brown contacts paired with deeply blended crimson eyeshadow captured that signature impatient, frosty detachment. For props, I brought a red spherical lollipop to add a playful, teasing contrast during shooting.
During the session, the studio deployed purple-pink neon lighting effects that perfectly resonated with the Techwear style. Posing on a chair was quite a core-strength test, as you have to project a lethargic, languid posture that still feels coiled and ready to strike at any moment. For instance, glancing back over the shoulder or crossing legs required care not to obscure the skirt's intricate details while using hand placement to guide the viewer's gaze. Resting the lollipop against the lips or idly twirling it added dynamic flair to the shots. For crouching poses, keeping the back straight allowed the garment's lines to drape cleanly while holding an uncompromising, commanding gaze toward the camera. Someone in the comments asked if they could touch the shark tail? Absolutely not. That flat, decisive rejection flawlessly embodies her character: nonchalant on the surface, but fiercely guarded with strict boundaries—strangers are strictly kept at bay. Throughout this shoot, I maintained this palpable distance in both expression and posture, deliberately avoiding sweet, approachable smiles.
Embodying a character loaded with hardware, buckles, and leather straps demands extreme care from prep to shooting. While suiting up, every buckle's tension must be calibrated—neither too tight to leave marks nor too loose to look sloppy. The wig's texture required constant primping to sustain that messy yet deliberate, structured layering. Lighting was tricky because black garments easily swallow light; edge-rim and side-backlighting were vital to carve out the silhouette while keeping facial nuances sharp. Overall, I'm genuinely pleased with the final outcome, harmonizing maid demureness with the rebellious edge of Techwear. Through continuous calibration and shooting takes, finding that authentic persona was a rewarding exercise in bodily control.
