[Remielle cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero Dark Gothic Style: Visual Reshaping with Maxed-Out Details and Textures

Portraying Remielle with this outfit offered an exceptionally rich sense of sartorial layering. From the moment I received the costume, the designer's precise mastery of the black-and-red palette was evident. The interplay between black translucent tulle and leather straps produced a gorgeous texture under the lights, preserving the gloom of Gothic style without feeling heavy or flat. To complement this overall aesthetic, I put on the iconic pink straight-bangs wig and elf ear props. Trimming the wig demanded meticulous care: the bangs were tailored just above the eyebrows to retain the original design's subtle sharpness. For the makeup, I accentuated the red eyes and red lips, adding nuance around the eyes through layered blending and sharp liner to evoke an aura both mysterious and fierce, while ensuring my features stayed defined against the dark backdrop.

The shooting location was a vintage chamber featuring a deep purple velvet sofa and gilded carved frames. While scouting this set, I paid close attention to ensure that the texture of the furnishings, along with the decorative roses and vines, harmonized with the costume's tones. Shooting in a practical set brings the advantage of building spatial depth through ambient lighting. For the lighting setup, we utilized side backlighting to contour the silhouette, using a softbox for subtle key fill to keep shadow details from muddling. Subtle twinkles in the background and reflections off the metallic borders added further dimension to the frame. Throughout the shoot, I continuously monitored how the light transmitted through the black tulle, as improper placement could flatten the black into a lifeless void.

The open-back cut and strapping were major highlights. For the second photo, I chose an over-the-shoulder gaze; the gray-white streamers extending from the neck curved naturally with the turn of my body, harmonizing with my back lines and fully displaying the rear tailoring to the camera. Achieving this angle took considerable time adjusting strap tension, aiming for aesthetic balance without warping the garment's silhouette—especially the delicate cords across the back, which needed to hug the contours closely without pinching the skin.

The kneeling posture on the rug in the third photo was intended to spotlight the lower-body layers. With tiered black ruffled skirts paired with feathered accents and red satin ribbons, broad movements could quickly make the folds look chaotic. During shooting, I kept my center of gravity low to let the skirt fan out naturally, which, paired with black Stockings and platform heels, anchored the visual weight. The black train behind the skirt draped fluidly in the kneeling pose without looking untidy. The leg contours and the texture of the Stockings rendered beautifully under the lighting, making this angle ideal for featuring those details.

During post-processing, the retouching preserved the garment's shadow nuances without turning the blacks rigid. The textural rendering was executed precisely: the sheer translucency of the tulle, the sheen of the leather straps, and the weave of the Stockings all resolved sharply in the final cut. Remielle inherently carries an enigmatic aura, so I experimented with diverse poses—such as resting my chin on my hand or looking back over my shoulder—to embody her blend of grace and edge. The entire shoot was essentially a re-articulation of costume silhouette and texture; because the character's original design is so intricately layered, movements required constant awareness of fabric flow to avoid bunched pleats. Bringing Remielle's design into the third dimension alongside such an exceptional set, photographer, and retoucher was a truly rare experience that deepened my appreciation for this character's aesthetic.
