Today's outdoor location really caught me off guard with relentless wind howling constantly by my ears. The pre-planned poses were swayed around multiple times by sudden gusts. Fortunately, the resulting photos turned out fantastic; the photographer captured many dynamic, candid moments against the wind—a natural wind-blown effect that is nearly impossible to recreate in an indoor studio or on a windless day.
This time, I wore my long-cherished blue-and-white sailor uniform. The light blue short wig, paired with the halo and bow atop my head, looks visually crisp and refreshing. The fabric is lightweight, making it ideal for daytime outdoor settings. The part I deliberated over most was the white tights—standing on the concrete pavement of the pier under strong winds was genuinely chilly, requiring careful steps. However, to achieve full character fidelity, pairing a White thigh-highs outfit with white platform sneakers made the entire look exceptionally clean and layered. There were also a few shots where I stepped barefoot on the steps as a relaxed adjustment midway through the shoot.
The sailor collar and the oversized white bow across the chest are the essence of this styling. Such wide collar designs tend to flutter wildly in strong gusts, requiring constant hands-on adjustments to keep the bow tie and collar choker centered. This need for real-time adjustments was quite a test of patience and synergy between the photographer and makeup artist.
For location selection, we chose an industrial riverside promenade, where the blue crane in the background and the distant cross-river bridge added great depth of field. The grayish-blue metal railings, concrete steps, and shimmering water reflections created a charming contrast against this bright, refreshing school uniform style. Sitting by the railing or standing on an elevated step reaching out toward the camera (like in the shot with an outstretched hand) suited Arona's innocent, affectionate persona who loves interacting with Sensei.
Regarding the character herself, when planning poses, I specifically drew inspiration from feelings of "waiting" and "anticipation." Arona's character inherently carries a touch of sweet clinginess and trust, so before the camera, I strived to bring out that charming innocence and vibrant energy, conveying those emotions through eye contact and subtle hand gestures. Despite the heavy wind, I maintained a warm smile and natural posture without looking tense in this Casual cosplay.
Lighting is another vital factor in Outdoor photography. The day was overcast with sunlight breaking through, offering gentle diffused light that made the overall frame bright while beautifully rendering skin textures. The white tights looked rich rather than transparent under natural light, delivering a soft sheen. The transition between the white sneakers and the White thigh-highs outfit also made the visual center of gravity of the lower body feel remarkably light.
Naturally, there were minor hiccups along the way—such as the fan-blade halo, which, being lightweight, easily spun out of alignment in strong gusts and needed minor post-processing touch-ups. Yet, the greatest charm of cosplay Outdoor photography lies precisely in this on-site spontaneity; you never know what dynamic split second the next shutter click will capture.
Overall, although shooting by the river was physically demanding (I felt like I swallowed a belly full of wind), seeing these finished photos made every effort worthwhile. Without heavy digital effects, preserving this natural, translucent, and comfortable outdoor portrait aesthetic, combined with my personal understanding and dedication to the character, made this Blue Archive Arona cosplay presentation deeply satisfying.
