[Amiya cosplay] Arknights: Reviewing the Circular Composition Shoot of Amiya

This shoot revolved around the theme of Amiya's 'Happiness is a circle,' primarily recreating the Lord of Fiends Amiya setting alongside behind-the-scenes documentation. To convey this oppressive yet lonely sense of happiness, significant thought went into the props. A large sheet of sheer white tulle was spread across the floor, and a pile of Plush toy dolls wearing various outfits was arranged head-to-tail to form a massive circular ring. Thin black strings were used as Marionette props connecting the dolls to my hands—a visual metaphor of pulling strings that fits deeply with the character's lore and themes like 'Until the earth turns into a lime.'

I switched between three main poses. The first was standing, holding a remote controller (egg-shaped shell) pulling the strings, giving an aura of control, but the composition was too off-center with the subject at the edge of the frame, falling short of the desired result. The second was side-reclining; with an overhead high-angle camera position, the leg lines were clearly defined, but photography equipment crept into the edges of the frame, making cropping inconvenient. The third pose was sitting upright right at the center of the ring, eyes closed with head bowed. The contrast between the white dress and black armor, the long bunny ear styling, combined with surrounding white pillars, red flora, and black mask props, delivered the most balanced composition.

We discussed specific shooting nuances: to create that blend of classical and dreamy texture, we used a softbox for side lighting and metallic reflectors nearby, allowing the white dress hem and leg lines to achieve excellent perspective and depth. We also meticulously adjusted the spacing between the Plush toy dolls—neither too dense nor too sparse—to ensure the integrity of the circle so that sitting inside felt genuinely enclosed. These behind-the-scenes shots mainly document the demanding effort of lighting setups and crouching on the floor to arrange the dolls. When shooting the Lord of Fiends outfit, the demeanor cannot be overly lively, requiring restrained, subtle facial expressions.

The overall atmosphere felt wonderful: the rigid textures of the platform and pillars contrasted against the soft, sheer white tulle and Plush toy props, bringing out rich visual layering. Standing barefoot on the tulle felt deeply attuned to the fragile vulnerability of the scene. Since these aren't final formal cuts, the treatment was a bit more relaxed. Nevertheless, dressing up the Plush toy dolls, forming the ring, and pulling the strings took considerable time, and making them look like a magic circle in the end made all the hard work worthwhile. The photographer mastered the high-angle perspective brilliantly, giving both tilted-up head and closed-eye poses a rich narrative quality for this Amiya cosplay session.
