I finally finished retouching the convention photos from this IDO event and selected a few favorites to share.
The outfit is a modernized variation on the traditional Qipao, styled predominantly in white with cutouts, sheer mesh panels across the chest, and intricate lace splicing. Paired with white lace over-the-knee White stockings and stiletto heels, it maintains an immaculate monochromatic palette. The white lace parasol served as an indispensable prop; against the geometric architecture of the ceiling and the muted gray convention floor, the pure white texture stood out vividly.
For hair and makeup, long pink hair is the character's signature look, paired with blue-violet colored contacts. The soft blue pattern accents on the legs and the cyan wristbands are faithful to the official character design and were reproduced meticulously. I also crafted and added the fine chain across the bodice and the subtle pink charms myself.
The venue was crowded and warm on the day of the shoot. In particular, holding the pose shown in the second image—standing on one leg with the other raised high—required repeated posture resets to stay balanced while draping the skirt at the most flattering angle, which took considerable stamina. The overhead hall lighting was tricky to manage, casting hot glare across the forehead and shoulders, but skilled post-processing pulled down blown-out highlights to restore a soft, natural skin texture.
Shooting on the floor was fun despite the sweeping hem often trailing on the floor or catching stray drafts. We seized brief gaps in the foot traffic to shoot, letting the sterile, industrial venue backdrop contrast and accentuate the character's delicate grace.
From a technical perspective, the photographer mostly crouched down for upward angles, effectively lengthening leg lines. A wide aperture cleanly threw the background out of focus to isolate the subject, while the cool ambient light in the hall enhanced the crisp, translucent quality of the white and pink wardrobe.
The form-fitting cut and chest cutout demanded careful control over movement when lifting the hem or posing to avoid wardrobe malfunctions. I adore this fusion of vintage romance and modern flair, and the crisp sound of heels clicking along the convention tiles added to the mood. Meeting so many fellow fans and bringing home satisfying photos made this IDO trip truly special.
