[Ganyu Cosplay] Genshin Impact: Serene Elegance Under the Red Plum in the Snow Theme

Preparation for this shoot under the Red plum in the snow theme had been in the works for a long time; the moment I received this weathered oil-paper umbrella prop, this exact composition formed in my mind. To align with the winter and red plum ambiance, we opted against an outdoor snowscape, choosing instead a solid gray studio backdrop and using single-sided soft light to simulate the serene post-snow glow. This minimalist studio approach allows for better focus on the styling layers of the character itself, which is a widely used expressive technique in Anime-style portrait photography.

This costume features exceptionally rich layering: the upper body's white base with gold piping inherently carries a cool, crisp texture, while the black detached sleeves and the prominent bright red bow tie at the neckline instantly create a visual focal point amidst the predominantly blue, white, and black palette, echoing the red plum motif. The blue short skirt of the lower body features a gradient design of water ripples and cloud patterns, nicely catching the fabric's luster under side lighting. Rather than using intricate jewelry, I deliberately kept the plush neck warmer and trailing ribbons—these soft textures balance the crisp structural lines of the garments.

The most challenging aspect of this styling was the semi-weathered oil-paper umbrella. Its exposed ribs and torn canvas created uneven weight distribution. During the shoot, I was constantly fine-tuning my hand posture, aiming to hold it in a relaxed, effortless grip while ensuring that the folds of the canvas and the rib framing maintained a visually striking composition before the camera without looking chaotic due to tilted angles. This uniquely textured umbrella was truly the soulful prop of the entire look.

Handling the wig also took considerable thought. Light blue-white hair easily catches harsh glare and looks unnatural under intense studio lighting, so during styling, we gave it a subtle wave and separately adjusted the angles of the ahoge on top and the red horn ornaments on both sides, making them blend seamlessly into the main wig. Many people overlook these tiny nuances, but I believe it is precisely these thoughtful touches that breathe distinct soul into the character.

The lower-body pairing of White stockings cosplay with black high heels was another crucial part of the styling. Wearing white stockings visually elongates the leg lines, creating a neat, balanced visual rhythm with the blue skirt. The contrast between black shoes and white stockings, combined with the arch of the heels, were elements we carefully weighed in the overall design. We hoped to infuse some personal character interpretation on top of faithful Genshin Impact cosplay recreation.

The entire shoot lasted over two hours, testing various standing and seated poses, and we ultimately chose this finished shot seated on a wooden armchair. We chose it because the chair's grounded, deep wood tone anchored the composition, giving visual support to the blue hair and skirt hem; meanwhile, this seated posture allowed us to simultaneously showcase the umbrella's torn details, the drape of the skirt, and the lines of the legs, offering the highest visual completeness. As a Ganyu Cosplay attempt, everyone was deeply invested—from prop fidelity and meticulous makeup styling to precise lighting control. While a solid backdrop cannot provide real wind and snow, through these immersive details and posture presentation, I hope to convey that serene and aloof grace intrinsic to the character.
