[Rikka Takarada Cosplay] SSSS.GRIDMAN Campus Style and Classic Thick Thighs Restoration

Shooting this JK uniform cosplay based on Rikka Takarada is the project that has taken up the most energy in my recent schedule. From the choice of clothing materials, the color and trimming of the wig, to the matching of makeup and eye color, the entire preparation process went through repeated adjustments and refinement of details.

The iconic elements of this look are very eye-catching. The pure white knit cardigan features black edge lines, paired with a golden single button on the front and a bright yellow M-shaped shield badge on the chest, revealing the character's unique refreshing temperament under a basic campus style cut. The inner white shirt and the wine red bow tie with just the right volume at the collar form the visual center of gravity, maxing out the layered feel of the upper body. The black pleated miniskirt and dark red mid-calf socks for the bottom, along with thick-soled black leather shoes, construct an overall color framework interwoven with black, white, red, and gold, perfectly matching the outfit logic of everyday anime characters.

For the hairstyle, I chose a deep blue straight bangs wig. The hair has great gloss and smoothness, and paired with layered cuts that flatter the face shape, it beautifully restores that hair texture from the original setting which features bangs but maintains an overall lightweight feel. For the eye makeup, matching this cool-toned hair color, a brownish-red eyeshadow was used for blending, and I wore matching blue colored contacts. Paired with rosy lip color, this avoided the facial detachment brought by cool-toned hair, making the overall aura softer.

What I especially wanted to emphasize in this shoot was actually the cozy daily life vibe of the look and the natural presentation of the body form. Therefore, during the shoot, we intentionally tried multiple camera angles, paying particular attention to the display of the lower body lines. In the first sitting composition selected, the character sits on a black mesh office chair. The low-angle shot combined with the natural crossing of the legs can maximize the restoration of this character's most recognizable "thick thighs" characteristic while maintaining a natural demeanor. To present a better texture in front of the lens, we deliberately avoided harsh direct overhead light in our lighting setup, choosing instead to illuminate with a large area of softboxes. This allows the leg skin to reflect a rounder and more lustrous texture, reducing harsh shadows and making the body lines look softer and more realistic.

Of course, meticulous details were also the focus of this restoration. We adjusted the size and material of the bow, choosing a fabric with better drape so that whether sitting, standing, or kneeling, the bow tie can produce natural wrinkles with changes in the body's center of gravity. The ginger-yellow scrunchie on the wrist forms a local bright color echo with the large color blocks of the clothes, adding a touch of vibrant color to the character's lifelike daily routine.

In terms of post-production photo editing, we didn't do overly exaggerated stretching or slimming treatments. We mainly preserved the perspective and realism of the original camera, focusing on making the white of the clothes look purer through subtle color adjustments while enhancing the fleshiness of the skin itself to avoid the flattened experience brought by excessive skin smoothing. Although after this shoot finished, looking back at the pictures I also felt there are places for improvement such as the angle of the bangs or the folds of the skirt hem, for the first shoot trying this character's style, the overall atmospheric feel and character temperament already fit my personal expectations quite well. For characters with a strong campus aura like this, instead of deliberately striking over-forced poses, maintaining a relaxed state that aligns with the character's tone is probably the best entry point to restore the feeling of the original work, and this set of photos perfectly presents this idea.
