Today's cosplay set mainly centers around BB from Fate/Extra CCC. Players of Fate/Grand Order are definitely no strangers to this character; her styling is highly recognizable, with the most core elements being that straight Purple wig and the iconic red ribbon.
Starting with the wig: to recreate BB-chan's slightly playful yet somewhat oppressive aura, I chose a light purple long straight hair wig this time. The blunt bangs on the forehead were trimmed neatly, hitting just above the eyebrows. For hair accessories, a red bow was pinned on the left side, which served as a wonderful bright accent against the purple hair. The wig needed to be sleek without any frizz and was treated with wig conditioning spray before shooting, giving it a strong drape in front of the lens.
In terms of makeup, to fit the character's setting, I specially wore purplish-gray contact lenses. The eye makeup emphasized the contours, with the outer corners slightly elongated, paired with natural blush and soft lip color, striving to forge that mysterious 2D anime vibe. The lighting was relatively soft during shooting, with shadows falling just right beneath the chin and side profile, complementing the overall atmosphere beautifully. For lipstick, I selected a glossy pink tone to gently echo the eye color.
I put considerable thought into the costume details. The inner layer is a basic white shirt tied with a long red ribbon at the neckline, draped over the chest in a loose bow. The outer black cloak is one of the key highlights of this styling. The fabric features a slight sheen, with very wide cuffs trimmed with silver-white piping. The cloak's lining is purple, forming a visual echo with the hair color. The lower body features a black pleated mini skirt paired with black over-the-knee socks (Stockings cosplay). The leg lines are prominently showcased, which is also what makes Image 1 the most eye-catching as a cover.
The prop is a slender silver metal rod, resembling a baton or magic wand. In Image 1, I hold the rod in my right hand with my left hand slightly raised and fingers spread naturally, striking a spellcasting posture. When shooting this pose, the arm muscles needed to be slightly tightened while keeping the wrist steady to ensure the metal rod formed a straight line. Image 2 features hands on the hips with the body leaning slightly forward, a pose that better highlights the upper body garment structure while projecting confidence and vitality.
The entire shooting process gave me a deeper appreciation of the costume's textures. The black pleated skirt swishes naturally when walking, and paired with the absolute territory boundary of the over-the-knee socks, shooting from a slight low-angle perspective elongates the legs. The oversized cuffs of the cloak bunch up at the wrists when posing with hands on hips, and combined with white gloves, add rich layering to the overall styling.
Cosplaying characters with such strong 2D anime traits makes capturing the right demeanor the hardest part. BB has a unique charm; in expression control, rather than an exaggerated smile, I opted for a calm or subtly curved expression. Although the silver rod isn't heavy in hand, holding it naturally to match the character's presence required repeated angle adjustments. Furthermore, the combination of stockings and pleated skirt in Image 1 not only visually elongates the lower body proportions but also gives the styling more dimension. During breaks, I continually adjusted the cloak's shoulder line to keep it from collapsing in front of the camera.
Layering this costume indoors was a bit of a test for breathability, but seeing the contrast between the purple lining and black outer layer of the cloak in the final shots made all these adjustments worth it. Looking closely at the raw photos afterward, the folds of the white shirt, the drape of the red ribbon, and the metallic glint of the silver trim under the lights faithfully recorded the entire shooting journey. As a player of Fate/Grand Order and Fate/Extra CCC, bringing BB-chan's classic look to life in my own way—from detangling the wig to testing the grip angle on the prop—involved repeated trials every step of the way. In Image 1, just adjusting the curvature of the left ring and pinky fingers took quite some time, all to look natural rather than stiffly posed. The white gloves tended to slip on the metal rod, requiring subtle finger pressure underneath. Meanwhile, the hands-on-hips pose in Image 2 seemed simple, but to highlight the garment's tailoring and character persona, twisting the waist slightly added dynamic tension to the curves and silhouette in the 2D frame. Overall, this shoot was more than just putting on a costume; it was an in-depth exploration of character action logic and fabric physics. The purplish-gray contact lenses showed great color vibrancy under strong light, though they dried out the eyes, requiring frequent eye drops between takes. Natural indoor light and partial fill lighting were used for the scene, with background glass doors and windows providing a shallow depth of field that made the subject pop. Without fill light, the black-and-purple cloak would have blended into the dark background, but fortunately, the silver-white cuff piping stood out vividly, outlining the hands. The black pleated skirt and stockings on the lower body served as a highlight of the look, matching the lore while flattering the leg lines. Every accessory, such as the position of the white gloves and red bow tie, was tidied up every few poses to prevent shifting from larger movements. The final two selected photos—one showcasing action tension and the other displaying confident demeanor—fully met my expectations for this shoot.
