[Ryougi Shiki cosplay] The Garden of Sinners Collab: The Cold Swordsman in a Sea of Red Spider Lilies

This Ryougi Shiki shoot took place at night among red spider lilies. To capture the cool and dreamlike atmosphere of The Garden of Sinners, the photographer used cool-white backlighting combined with foreground water mist. The red blossoms stood out vividly against the dark background, creating a strong visual impact alongside the red-and-white kimono. Rather than using warm, highly saturated tones, the entire set utilized blue-white cool key lights, which not only highlighted the red flowers and skirt but also amplified the character's cold, aloof demeanor.

For the outfit, I chose a red-and-white kimono haori over a deep red pleated skirt. The obi sash features a blue water-wave pattern, providing a distinct texture under dim lighting. Styled with straight-bang black short hair and blue contact lenses, the sharpness in her gaze came to life. Plush white bunny ears were added to the headwear, giving the aloof Ryougi Shiki a touch of contrast and aligning more closely with the collab's specific Craft Essence style. Props included a fox mask, a red umbrella, and a tachi.

Throughout the shoot, designing the poses took the most effort. To capture the explosive instant of drawing the blade, we rehearsed multiple times, syncing with dry ice, smoke, and artificial water splashes on set. Due to the wide range of motion, moving through the grass wearing Stockings and red high-heeled boots required immense care to avoid snagging or staining the hem with mud. Especially during sword-slashing shots, I had to regulate my breathing to keep my arms completely steady and capture the perfect arc of the blade trajectory.

In static shots, such as crouching among flowers holding the fox mask and red umbrella, the photographer used a wide aperture to blur the foreground spider lilies, framing the shot with a striking red border while focusing squarely on the eyes and legs. This captured a blend of cold beauty and subtle grace.

Reviewing the photos afterward, the moment the long sleeves flared paired seamlessly with the cold facial expression. The essence of the entire set lies in the red-black-white color contrast and the atmospheric lighting. If you plan to shoot a similar style, pay close attention to the timing of flowing fabric and the angle of the water mist lights, as these details define the final texture.

Preparing for this shoot was quite intricate: adjusting the skirt, custom-making the red umbrella, and searching the market for a suitably lightweight sword. The umbrella featured tassels that easily blocked the face, requiring careful angling. When sitting on the grass holding it, the umbrella's translucency turned out to be a fantastic atmospheric prop.

Additionally, to enhance dynamic motion, I adjusted the flare of the clothing across multiple action snaps. Since long red sleeves can easily whip around, swinging the sword required making sure the wig and headwear remained secure, as excessive force could send the bunny ears flying. Fortunately, the photographer captured the moments with pinpoint timing, ultimately presenting a powerful static tension under the cool, striking lights. Although the shoot was demanding, it offered a wonderful opportunity to experience the unique mystery and chilling lethality of The Garden of Sinners.
