All the gear for attending the Hangzhou GF Game Doujin Convention (GameFes) is officially ready! Taking advantage of some free time over the weekend, I organized a batch of recent convention photos. This collection spans multiple distinct styling aesthetics, and from fabric textures to overall lighting moods, I’d love to share my behind-the-scenes thoughts and shooting experiences with everyone here.
The first blue-and-white sailor-style outfit radiates a refreshing, airy aesthetic. The twin-tail wig paired with oversized bow hairpieces stands out crisply under overhead lighting. To accentuate the layered edges of the costume, we intentionally opted for a high-exposure setup, preserving clear contrast along the blue-and-white striped collar and cuffs. Paired with casual dynamic movements like lifting an arm or gently lowering the head, it delivers a lively, approachable 2D feel—these shots are easily the most natural and relatable of the bunch.
The second pastel-purple plush look leans into cozy winter warmth. A fluffy white coat accented with tiny blue bows at the cuffs looks irresistibly soft to the touch. The yellow plushie prop played a vital role during this shoot, bridging the emotional distance between the character and the viewer. Because the style is soft and sweet, we utilized generous diffused soft lighting to clearly render both skin texture and knit patterns. Its warm color palette makes it perfect for avatar crops.
The third look—a dark uniform paired with elongated horns and weapon props—marks a clear stylistic shift toward sharp, battle-ready intensity. The deep navy sailor-collar uniform incorporates diamond jacquard patterns and a metallic-textured bow tie, boasting rich material depth. To complement the gesture of holding the sword hilt, the photographer lowered the camera angle, using directional lighting to carve a fierce look into the eyes while preserving highlights on the white horns against the dark backdrop, shaping a commanding, imposing presence.
The fourth black-and-white naval leather set is a personal favorite. The reflective quality of faux leather places strict demands on lighting; through coordinated overhead and side lights, the metallic chain trim, black leather gloves, and silver anchor emblem on the sailor cap achieved striking luster. The dark cap contrasts dramatically against the light silver hair, giving off an authoritative aura that will surely leave a strong visual impact under convention lights.
The fifth look features purple-to-blue gradient long hair paired with a white turtleneck and chunky knit cardigan, embracing a relaxed, casual vibe. Wearing the cardigan off-the-shoulder flatters the neck and shoulder lines, while the pink-and-white bow adds everyday charm. Holding a tablet as a prop infuses the frame with realistic lifestyle warmth. Shot entirely under natural light, the serene atmosphere captures a character's quiet, solitary moments in daily life.
Finally, the grand finale sheer tulle look delivered exceptional expressiveness. A light purple corset paired with a white semi-sheer overlay created rich textural layers. Though shot in a seated pose, the cascading ribbons and airy tulle kept the composition light and floating. Light brown short hair paired with prominent white animal ears and purple floral accents achieved wonderful chromatic harmony. Lighting semi-sheer fabrics is critical—it must reveal skin tones without looking flat. This angle best conveyed gentle elegance with a tight, well-balanced composition.
Next comes the final countdown for the Hangzhou GF Game Doujin Convention. Convention halls are crowded and chaotic, so managing props, wigs, and costume packing requires meticulous advance planning. I’ve prepared several backup styling options to switch depending on venue conditions.
