This year marks the fifth consecutive year of doing a Reimu Hakurei Cosplay. From being clumsy at the beginning to now getting better at controlling the character's temperament and movements, every click of the shutter captures a different emotion. This time, I specially chose this Japanese style courtyard in Shanghai. The vermilion torii gate and corridors match Reimu's red and white shrine maiden outfit perfectly, making it arguably the most suitable location in the city for a Japanese style cosplay shoot. The costume comes from the Star box design co-branded collection. The moment I got it, I was captivated by the fabric texture and embroidery details; the layers of the red and white color scheme are superb, especially the patterns on the skirt hem and cuffs, completely restoring the charm of the original work. However, this outfit definitely has strict requirements for height and leg length. Wearing it makes the overall center of gravity look a bit low, but once spinning around, the flowing effect of the wide sleeves and skirt is truly stunning, bringing a fluid dynamic beauty under the sunlight. For this Touhou cosplay shoot, I deliberately experimented with different camera angles, light, and shadow, capturing both the solemn feeling under the torii gate and the playful interactions along the wooden corridors. The five-year shooting journey has given me a deeper understanding of Reimu; it is not just about replicating the attire, but also about capturing her light yet firm aura. The Japanese style scene, the lighting temperature, and the costume texture—every detail affects the final photo. Personally, I feel that this year's set is the most satisfying group of pictures I've taken so far for my Touhou Project collection.
