A shrine maiden whose mind is full of spring, completely Straight out of camera—I truly didn't expect to look so sleepy during this shoot. The reason was falling asleep in the car and losing my contact lens, leaving me unable to open my eyes fully. Unexpectedly, this actually aligned by coincidence with the character's signature detached, nonchalant demeanor. This red-and-white Shrine maiden outfit is embellished with plenty of lace ruffles, differing from traditional plain shrine maiden robes with a more ornate, glamorous flair. To complement this outfit, I tested several makeup looks and finally chose this style with a soft reddish blush under the eyes to brighten my complexion. It was quite a test for a Straight out of camera shoot without retouching, but fortunately, the lighting was wonderful.
During the shoot, the sunlight was just right, and the Spring cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Shooting Straight out of camera demands high standards for skin tone and makeup precision; without post-production retouching, everything relies on on-site lighting and angles. For props, I brought a gohei and spell cards. Posing to match the height of the cherry trees meant holding the long staff aloft for quite a while, which left my neck stiff. The photographer guided me on the frontal shot holding spell cards, advising that my arm angle needed to be completely relaxed to avoid looking stiff—and the final shot turned out even better than anticipated. In posing design, I did my best to convey the contrast between Reimu Hakurei's everyday languor and her agile, vibrant spirit when wielding spell cards.
The costume for this shoot had abundant details: subtle jacquard patterns on the red skirt, detached sleeves, a white lace capelet, and the oversized ribbon bow on the headdress—all of which showed exquisite texture under the sunlight. As Reimu Hakurei from Touhou Project, her shrine maiden archetype is timeless: maintaining the balance of Gensokyo at the shrine, a bit capricious in personality, yet surprisingly reliable. Because the contact lens slipped and left my gaze slightly dreamy, it felt like it accidentally captured her everyday leisurely, carefree side.
The most exhausting part of shooting this set was the physical exertion—holding the gohei while striking poses and chasing light through the cherry blossom grove. Fortunately, the finished photos captured a rich spring atmosphere. This set mainly documents a spontaneous spring creation; the natural texture Straight out of camera without excessive editing served as a comprehensive test of my makeup, styling, and expressive performance. Cosplay shoots are always full of surprises, but transforming those unexpected accidents into authentic emotion in the photos is part of the fun.
