[Usagi Tsukino Cosplay] Sailor Moon Outdoor Convention Photos from Chengdu CD27

On the first day of Chengdu CD27, I changed into this classic Usagi Tsukino sailor suit and headed straight to the outdoor convention area. This set consists purely of outdoor convention photos without dedicated elaborate sets—we simply used the plaza and glass curtain walls of the convention venue as backdrops. The original photo lighting was very soft; overcast natural light is actually extremely friendly for cosplay convention photos, leaving no harsh highlights or deep shadows on the face. A subtle post-processing tweak to color contrast easily brought out a great anime texture.

During prep for this costume, the hairstyle and accessories demanded the most effort. Anyone familiar with the original work knows Usagi Tsukino's iconic large round odango hair buns severely test wig-styling skills. To keep them from collapsing all day, several wire skeletons were stuffed inside, along with two ultra-long twin tails. Due to the heavy hair volume, they swayed with my movement while walking, but in crowded convention spaces, they easily bumped into nearby passersby, so I had to carefully control my movements. The bangs and side locks were also trimmed for a long time to ensure they contoured my face shape without obscuring too much of the blue contact lenses.

For makeup today, I picked highly saturated blue contact lenses, paired with an earth-tone base smoothly blended with a touch of pink eyeshadow. The eyeliner was drawn slightly elongated, with an intentional lower lash line expansion to make my gaze appear more innocent and watery. Instead of bold red, I chose a subtle strawberry pink lip color, which better fits the character's sweet youthful feel. The overall makeup was kept light without heavy foundation, as the essence of this sailor suit lies in refreshing vitality rather than heavy makeup.

Speaking of the outfit, the pattern of the white shirt was subtly tailored. The bow tie used a crisp bright pink fabric, and the central metal brooch accessory was custom-made with a very accurate metallic luster. The blue-and-white stripes on the sailor collar and cuff details matched the character design perfectly. For the pleated skirt, I chose a royal blue fabric with crisp, sharp pleats; even with a slightly cropped high-waist silhouette, it didn't look bulky at all. From the live photos, even when standing still, that large pink bow remains eye-catching, truly capturing the character's defining traits.

Because I cosplayed Usagi Tsukino this time, I met several fellow fans on site, and many passersby felt a nostalgic warmth seeing this iconic look. Honestly, cosplaying such a universally beloved classic character brings a challenge that isn't technical, but rather the pressure of everyone searching for the character's shadow in you. Thus, from wig styling and base makeup to accessories, I paid close attention to every detail. Although the outdoor area of the venue was bustling and noisy, the convention photos actually captured a genuine sense of real life. Sorting through today's convention photos, this outfit proves truly suited for outdoor shoots—unburdened by bulky armor or intricate props, allowing me to present the most pure, authentic state before the camera.
