Today, I changed into this Herrscher of Reason cosplay costume for Bronya. Stepping out of the dressing room, the layering of the skirt felt a bit heavier than expected. The top features a halter-neck, midriff-baring design adorned with a blue diamond-shaped gemstone on the chest, bordered by geometric patterns pieced together in black and blue. To ensure a snug fit, the back straps were adjusted multiple times. The gloves are long, dual-tone black and blue pieces; the forearm section is black while the hand portion is bright blue. The fabric has slight elasticity, requiring careful smoothing finger by finger during wear to prevent wrinkles at the tips. The skirt is a multi-layered white fluffy tutu with irregular blue and black fabric stitched along the edges, creating rich visual depth when walking. The lower half is paired with white Stockings and blue boot covers, which feature a stiff fabric structure that effectively holds up the skirt hem's silhouette.
The wig consists of silver-grey long curly hair with ample volume. It required first teasing out the curls at the tips using a wide-tooth comb, followed by a light mist of styling spray to maintain smoothness. The roots were given a voluminous treatment, the bangs trimmed to sit right above the eyes, and a flat iron used to shape a subtle curve. The angle of the black bow hair accessory pinned to the top of the head needed repeated adjustment to preserve its three-dimensional form from every shooting angle. For makeup, light blue contact lenses were chosen to complement cool-toned eyeshadow, with slightly upturned eyeliner and a natural light pink lipstick. The amber teardrop earrings formed a subtle contrast with the overall cool-toned attire.
During the shoot, the on-set lighting leaned cool, with the primary light source hitting from the front-side. This required constant micro-adjustments of facial angles to prevent overly harsh shadows while utilizing a secondary light to illuminate the edge of the hair strands. The first photo features a standing pose with arms crossed over the chest; this posture requires tightening the shoulders for smoother arm lines, alongside a gentle tension in the fingers to define the glove's contours. The second photo, lifting both arms, serves to showcase the blue side panels at the waist while exposing the shoulder and neck lines, though keeping the arms suspended genuinely tests core strength and calls for steady breathing control to maintain stability. The third squatting pose is one of my personal favorites, with hands folded beneath the chin and the skirt naturally fanned out. When squatting, one must mind the direction of the knees and skirt coverage; paired with white Stockings and blue boot covers, a slightly lower camera angle captures both leg lines and skirt architecture simultaneously, while being careful not to let the hem drag on the ground and get dirty.
Communication with the photographer went smoothly. We experimented with different focal lengths, sometimes pulling back to frame background elements alongside the subject. The blue-and-white exhibition backdrop complemented the attire perfectly, yielding unified color tones that minimized heavy post-production color grading. Maintaining postures kept my shoulders, waist, and core constantly tensed, requiring several breaks during which I quickly sat down to relax my lower back. With numerous accessories accompanying this outfit, constant checks were necessary throughout the shoot to ensure the gemstone decorations hadn't tilted, the gloves hadn't slipped, and the wig hadn't wrapped around my arms due to expansive movements.
The entire shooting process was immensely fulfilling. From wearing the costume to refining the poses, every effort was poured into delivering a multidimensional visual effect. Changing out of the outfit, carefully removing and storing the wig, I am now ready to embrace the work ahead.
