For this Tokoyami Towa cosplay, I put a lot of effort into replicating her makeup and overall look. As a hololive member with a unique charm, capturing that mix of gentleness and playfulness in Tokoyami Towa is key to a faithful portrayal. For the hair and makeup design, I opted for a clear, fair base to highlight a clean feel, paired with translucent green contact lenses. Instead of using heavy eyeliner, I applied generous shimmer to highlight the aegyo sal and inner eye corners, making the eyes look more lively and bright.
For the hair, I selected a purple wig made of heat-resistant synthetic fiber with a subtle soft pink-purple gradient, especially along the inner layers and tips, which perfectly recreates her signature hair color. In addition to straight bangs and long sideburns, I tied a small bun on the right side fixed with a black ribbon bow. The top is accessorized with a black beret bearing attached devil horns, secured with pink bobby pins crossed on the side. These details are vital for completing the look, as the tailoring and accessory positioning directly determine the overall accuracy of the cosplay.
For the outfit, I chose a basic white collared shirt with a black bow tie featuring a white plush ball at the center, combined with black suspenders and a black leather belt. This combination cleanly defines the upper body silhouette while retaining the character's academy-style charm. To add a casual everyday feel, I layered an oversized grey knitted cardigan, letting it hang loosely off the shoulders down to the elbows. This relaxed styling softens the formality of the white shirt and matches the casual look the character often displays during streams and events.
During the shoot, I deliberately coordinated different hand gestures and facial expressions to showcase various facets of the character. For instance, holding an index finger to my lips in a 'shh' pose while looking slightly upward brings out a touch of little devil mischief. Placing both fists against my chest captures her endearing, fan-friendly sweetness and adorable charm. In another shot, reaching one hand toward the camera adds a welcoming, interactive sense. The gestures were kept refined and controlled to highlight the polish of the outfit without letting exaggerated movements overpower the composition.
This photo set was shot indoors. The solid tile wall paired with top lighting significantly enhanced the clarity of the Japanese cosplay makeup and the dimensionality of the outfit. I believe cosplay is about finding a way to express a character's core essence—bringing an anime girl from the screen into real life through makeup, attire, gestures, and expressions. It is not merely replicating appearances, but briefly experiencing the character's personality. I am very satisfied with the overall result, and I hope this shoot allows everyone to appreciate Tokoyami Towa's reassuring gentleness along with her stage presence. Throughout the process, I maintained a meticulous attitude toward every detail to bring Tokoyami Towa vividly to life.
