[Chang'e Cosplay] NARAKA: BLADEPOINT Meets Ethereal Chinese-Style Fantasy: Lotus Lantern Illuminating a Goddess

Preparing for this themed photoshoot took significantly longer than expected. From selecting garment fabrics and pairing metal waist accessories to customizing the handheld glowing lotus prop, every single step aimed to break through my previous styles in the final output.

Behind the ethereal flow you see in these photos lie hours of non-stop, high-intensity shooting. To capture the dynamic tension of the low-angle wide-angle shot in photo 2, the photographer was practically lying flat on the ground. This camera angle places high demands on posture—it dramatically elongates leg proportions while giving the flowing sheer sleeves and hair maximum visual punch as they fly. The tradeoff was that I had to repeatedly flip my coat in windless air to freeze the best mid-air drape moments, which took serious physical endurance!

Regarding the outfit and styling, I opted for a light-toned strapless top paired with layered sheer tulle and intricate embroidery. Under natural daylight, the fabric exudes a soft glow, but at night or indoors, it relies heavily on technical photography lighting for shaping. For makeup, I deliberately deepened the gradient smudging at the outer eye corners with pearlescent shimmer, complemented by long straight pale hair and an intricate metal tassel headpiece to evoke a vivid, divine aura in close-ups. The heavy headpiece added a layer of difficulty during movement, requiring constant balance control during larger poses.

Prop texture was another major focus of this session. The handheld glowing lotus lantern wasn't just a simple LED tube; its interior underwent multi-layer light diffusion treatment so the halo effect on camera possessed volumetric depth akin to real flame. Paired with floating sky lanterns in the backdrop, it created a harmonious foreground-to-background visual anchor.

Drawing from the divine elegance of Chang'e cosplay, blended with the bold poise of Shen Miao from NARAKA: BLADEPOINT and the imaginative allure of Chinese-style fantasy akin to Genshin Impact, I attempted to fuse these diverse elements together. The nocturnal mirror floor composition in photo 3 was, in my opinion, the absolute highlight. The reflective surface extended spatial depth while mirroring the warm glow of sky lanterns, elevating the dreamlike atmosphere. Since the skirt has a short silhouette, standing in high-heeled sandals required engaging my core constantly to maintain an elongated, elegant upper-body posture.

For post-processing, I favored subtraction over addition. Rather than over-smoothing skin textures, we preserved natural skin grain and focused on light and shadow integration. The rim light along the lotus lantern and subtle spark particles around the character were individually feathered and repositioned to blend seamlessly with the raw footage. This painstaking masking and retouching often demands post-production hours several times longer than the shoot itself.

Behind every thoughtfully crafted photoset lies endless polishing by the entire team. Though the process comes with toil—like shoulders reddened by heavy, intricate accessories or waiting patiently for crowd-cleared shots—freezing all that effort into timeless imagery brings profound fulfillment. I hope to showcase even more unique possibilities in outfit selection and pose design for future Cosplay photography projects!
