Stepping inside the BilibiliWorld 2026 convention halls, the immediate sense of technology and the surging crowds enveloped me instantly. For this Shanghai trip, I chose to portray the Puppet from Genshin Impact. This outfit, interwoven with black, white, gold, and red, featured complex details but delivered an excellent visual effect under the venue lighting. At the same time, I am well aware that my expression and aura might inevitably be slightly OOC. As a cosplayer, internalizing and projecting a character truly requires continuous refinement, so I ask my fellow fans to go easy on me.
This costume has numerous detailed highlights. The white ruffled headpiece trimmed with black satin ribbon paired with a light silver hair color effectively centers the viewer's focus on my face. The deep red ruby embedded on the black velvet ribbon around my neck serves as one of the visual centerpieces of the entire look. The V-shaped patchwork design on the chest features a contrast of deep red and white, complemented by detached sleeves adorned with gold embroidery over a black base. The upper arms are bound in red and black leather, and the pastel yellow ruffles at the wrists are incredibly fluffy. These wide sleeve cuffs have great impact when holding up my phone for selfies on site. From a full-body standing posture, the white and black double-layered tier ruffles of the skirt, combined with the orange lining peeking out from the side, make the entire silhouette look three-dimensional and rich on camera.
In terms of makeup and styling, since the original wig hair color leans toward a silvery white, I intentionally added dark contours around the eyes to balance the facial dimension. Paired with light-colored contacts, I attempted to capture a subtle illusion in front of the lens that rests somewhere between the inanimate and the organic. During the shoot, the complex blue and purple ambient lighting of the venue and the pulsing Bilibili logos on the screens made the overall atmosphere feel highly cyberpunk. This alternating warm and cool lighting field heavily tested the post-processing retoucher's skills and also tested the accuracy of our pre-shoot communication.
When taking selfies with my phone, the 3D backdrop wall behind me appeared in the frame, while the second full-body photo, with the help of the barriers and the blurred crowd in the background, directly showcases the wearing effect and overall proportions of the entire outfit. The wrapping fit of the white tights, combined with the black, white, red, and gold patterned dress, added some of my personal interpretation style while preserving the character design. Although the lighting on site was quite cluttered, the raw photos already exuded a great doll-like quality.
Attending an offline convention always allows me to re-examine the act of role-playing. It is not just about wearing the right clothes, but also about integrating expressions, postures, and even the convention hall environment. This time, at the Bilibili booth in Shanghai Iris Hall EH, I saw breathtaking works brought by many excellent prop makers and makeup artists, which also pushed me to refine my own details more rigorously. From the material combination of this outfit to the support of the petticoat and the drape of the sleeve cuffs, these are all valuable experiences worth reviewing. I hope to meet everyone next time with a more perfected condition and a more composed performance.
