The cat form under the sunlight is always the ultimate stress reliever. When doing this Chen cosplay from Touhou Project, I specially chose a bright sunny day. That kind of oblique side light piercing through the wooden gaps of the roof best accentuates the details of this costume. The overall environment for this shoot was a primitive courtyard teahouse, where the wooden boardwalk, brick walls, and natural greenery constructed a background perfectly matching her 'shikigami' attributes.
I want to specially praise today's costume. The pattern was widened yet remains form-fitting, and the layered lace of the skirt hem creates a dynamic effect when walking. The red fabric with white floral patterns combined with the fabric stitching at the waist incorporates Japanese style elements, yet the overall design leans toward a western dress. The giant golden bell at the chest serves as a visual anchor, and the textures of the collar and bead chain stay as close to the original design as possible. The makeup needed to be translucent and clean because the side light under the sun significantly amplifies facial highlights; the base makeup had to be perfectly seamless to keep the skin looking natural.
We even invited a 'real cat actor' on set, which was such a perfect coincidence! Interacting with a real orange cat made the shooting atmosphere incredibly joyful, and the animal's natural randomness broke the stiffness usually found in studio shoots. The combination of geta wooden clogs and white lace socks gave off a very Japanese style girl vibe while walking on the boardwalk. I'm highly satisfied with the overall light and shadow atmosphere of the final product. This kind of natural light cosplay in a specific environment genuinely tests on-site control and the material expressiveness of the props, but the sense of vitality presented in the final photoshoot is something that a studio simply cannot replicate for this Kemonomimi girl look.
