[Ch'en cosplay] Neon Night of the Lungmen Guard Department: Freezing Moments of Tacit Synergy with Hoshiguma

For the cold-toned reflections of Lungmen at night, we experimented with staggered glass reflections to construct the frame.

Preparing this Lungmen Guard Department uniform for Ch'en cosplay took substantial effort, especially in recreating uniform details and props—referencing original official lore for chest walkie-talkie placement and tactical strap routing. The wig was dyed into her signature deep blue; although neon lighting gave it a purplish sheen, it matched the cyberpunk night-city aesthetic remarkably well. My partner in the shot portrayed Hoshiguma (Hoshiguma cosplay); her green hair and iconic horn accessories formed a complementary top-and-bottom reflection across transparent glass.

To avoid a stiff composition, we skipped conventional front-facing standing poses in favor of reflections and offset camera angles that allowed our sightlines to crisscross. In post-processing, this preserved the high contrast of the ambient light—the cold interplay of cyan and blue capturing Lungmen's high-pressure, undercurrent-laden urban mood in Arknights. Because ambient lighting was quite dim, we repeatedly tested light angles on site to ensure our facial features weren't lost in the shadows.

This photo carries a genuine sense of storytelling: Ch'en and Hoshiguma looking past each other through the glass, where even without direct eye contact, the refracted atmosphere conveys unspoken understanding. The Lungmen Guard Department design—from uniform tailoring to overall tactical rigidity—demands strict physical posture control from cosplayers. To properly fill out the uniform's shoulder and back lines, I did plenty of back conditioning in advance. Wearing the tactical harness and communicator without bunching up the fabric took meticulous adjustment, carrying noticeable weight despite looking streamlined in this Stockings outfit cosplay.

When publishing this set, I framed the shoot in a real-world cool-toned corridor, using glass door reflections as the foreground. Many cosplayers overlook the effect of ambient lighting on costume colors; under cool blue lighting, overall saturation dropped, creating a cinematic narrative filter. Using ambient atmosphere to support character portrayal fits the post-apocalyptic and near-future setting of Arknights brilliantly.

Throughout my cosplay journey, I have always strived not just to mimic poses, but to convey a character's specific presence through photography. Shooting these photos, I immersed myself in the mindset of a Lungmen Guard Department officer on routine patrol. My partner was incredible—her Hoshiguma cosplay radiated a calm, resolute strength, creating instant narrative tension without needing words. If there was any slight imperfection, strong lighting caused slight overexposure at the tips of my blue wig, but retaining that in post-processing added a fluid sense of motion.

The tactile quality of the costume is hard to fully convey in photos; the fabric and tactical fittings were custom-made to military figure standards, with hidden zippers and clasps tailored snugly to body contours. In Lungmen Guard Department lore, every detail ties directly to character recognition. We shot in a commercial back alley where neon signs and cyan-blue fluorescent tubes sparked creative inspiration. Carrying just a prop baton and tactical boots, we experimented with various eye-level and high-low angles. Shooting during low-traffic late-night hours allowed me to express movements and poses freely without distractions.

Through this set, I wanted to convey the unspoken bond between these characters. Ch'en's straightforward, resolute nature is perfectly balanced by Hoshiguma's grounded stability. Lifting my chin slightly brought out the pride of an elite Guard Department officer. Cosplay is a dialogue between creator and character—a collaborative visual creation that pays deep homage to Arknights.
