Today, I completed the photoshoot for this Eyjafjalla the Hvít Aska styling at an outdoor white wooden cabin and lawn. To faithfully recreate this costume, preparations had been underway for a long time. The dress's blue-and-white color scheme is very refreshing, yet it packs an abundance of intricate details. The red-and-white diamond patterns on the skirt hem were pieced together block by block, and the inner white lace underskirt had its pleats adjusted multiple times to ensure it fluffed up naturally when walking or sitting. The off-the-shoulder top design paired with puff sleeves required hidden structural support inside to maintain its shape, preventing my shoulders from looking cramped when lifting that oversized golden pitchfork staff.
The light blue giant bow and ram-horn hair ornaments on top posed quite a challenge. The spiral textures of the ram horns received detailed treatment, and wearing them required precise adjustment of weight distribution and angle to ensure they wouldn't fall off during turning-back or side-profile shots, while also allowing the wig's layering to shine through. For this light brown long wavy hair, I chose a color with a slight grayish undertone, because the character's background carries a gentleness and resilience tempered by trials; a color that is too bright would make it lack story-driven depth. In terms of makeup, the focus was placed on eye contours, using an orange-brown eyeshadow base to deepen the outer corner's depth, combined with a large area of blush and natural lip color to bridge the distance with the 2D character.
In terms of posing, I tried my best to empathize with that relaxed yet slightly poignant mindset of the character's picnic before a long journey. The posture of holding the oversized prop pitchfork required a sense of power rather than appearing limp, so many poses in the photos involved gripping the staff tightly with one or both hands. For the shot with one leg lifted, to make the lines of the White stockings and Mary Jane shoes look natural and fluid, I experimented with several angles before finally achieving a satisfying effect with the assistance of the sunlight's inclination. In the shot sitting on the grass with the staff laid horizontally across my front, the aim was primarily to convey a sense of serene tranquility during a moment of rest.
Throughout the shooting process, I made an effort to enrich my body language. Whether standing on the gravel path holding up the skirt hem or leaning against the door frame, I wanted to showcase the character's vivid side. The moment when the White stockings and skirt hem fluttered in the wind was wonderfully captured by the lens. This is far more than a simple costume showcase; it is a hope to convey that gentleness and steadfastness through the form of cosplay. The temperature during the shoot was just right, the sunlight wasn't glaring, and the lawn and flowers in pots served as exquisite embellishments. Walking across the lawn carrying a giant staff truly gave me the feeling of undergoing a long journey.
