Because of its large volume and rigid material, it isn't as easily folded or manipulated as plushies when moving and posing, demanding high physical balance during the shoot. To recreate the refreshing feel of swimsuit Hoshino from Blue Archive, the entire costume features a light blue-and-white palette for this Summer outfit.
The ruffled details on the top and elastic shorts feel exceptionally comfortable in a grand indoor set. To match this resort vibe, the head accessories were meticulously tuned—translucent sunglasses, pink wig, and the iconic halo on top, none of which could be missed. Running around conventions or venues with such a huge prop drains a lot of stamina, so when posing, I tried tucking it under one arm paired with a dynamic single-leg stance, aiming to give the heavy prop a sense of lightness while accentuating slender leg lines to showcase the vitality of this summer look.
The shooting location itself was a spacious hall with dark gray flooring and dense circular spotlights, creating a naturally deep backdrop. To keep skin tone luminous and translucent under strong light sources, we used a wide aperture alongside soft fill lighting on set, ultimately rendering the background lights into round bokeh spots that make the frame feel brilliantly airy. In terms of photography technique, choosing specific low-angle and eye-level camera angles nicely balances subject extension with prop proportions, avoiding any clipping or masking of waistlines and costume details.
As a highly popular character in Blue Archive, Takanashi Hoshino's swimsuit variant exudes a unique, lazy charm. In this relaxed, carefree pose, I hoped to convey the composure and calm innate to the character, as if she had just wrapped up a pleasant stroll along the beach. Although shot indoors, the texture of the prop and the brightness of the overall color scheme still convey a refreshing summer breeze.
The ultimate purpose of doing cosplay is using real body language to draw closer to anime characters, and this finished shot perfectly captures a vibrant, cool image of Hoshino within a cold indoor venue. Color-wise, pairing pink hair and blue-white garments with the blue whale concentrates visual focus directly on the character; combined with a confident smile, the overall atmosphere maxes out. This shooting experience was thoroughly enjoyable, and the blue translucent whale truly became the MVP prop of the day.
