New member reporting to the rock club! This photo series sparked an exciting fresh synergy by clashing a classic Sailor suit against a traditional folk instrument. For the outfit, I selected a deep navy sailor uniform with iconic yellow line piping, exuding authentic School-supplied uniform style vibes. To lean into the rock club concept, I threw on vintage round sunglasses. Paired with white mid-calf socks and brown loafers, this look is inherently well-behaved and studious, yet slipping on dark shades while wielding an Erhu immediately injected the distinct, gritty rebellion of an Underground idol.
Our chosen prop was an Erhu. At first glance, people might be puzzled, wondering what traditional Erhu has to do with rock and roll. Yet across contemporary Chinese-style rock and new folk-fusion genres, the Erhu's timbre carries immense bite—its raw rasp and dynamic tension rival an electric guitar effortlessly. To amplify the rock aura, I struck exaggerated poses: slinging the instrument over my shoulder, thrusting the bow skyward, or sitting cross-legged on the floor, all to channel an untamed rock spirit. A vital disclaimer here: these poses were staged purely for dramatic visual impact. Please do not attempt them when actually playing; not only will it produce no melody, but it can also easily sprain your wrist and forearm. Playing instruments properly requires dedicated, professional posture!
This studio shoot was undertaken with the pure determination to pour out youthful sweat. To nail each action, I repeatedly crouched, stood, leaped, and drew the bow across the white studio floor, burning stamina on par with sprinting an 800-meter dash. With the hot studio lights baking down on long sleeves, I was drenched in sweat by the end. Yet every time the shutter clicked and captured that raw vitality on the monitor, the exertion felt entirely worth it. I'm especially fond of the shot crouching low taking a phone selfie, as well as the frame leaning forward while subtly pulling down my sunglasses—those spontaneous, candid moments feel wonderfully alive.
I adore exploring exaggerated dynamic actions, and with this shoot, I hoped to offer illustrators diverse, unconventional pose ideas for Drawing reference. Poses like crouching with the smartphone or resting the Erhu on my shoulder while pointing forward make fantastic drawing resources. I've always loved studying School-supplied uniform style cuts and Underground idol fashion, and this aesthetic exploration deepened my grasp of visual juxtaposition. Alongside the Erhu and smartphone, we placed a small black camp stove in the foreground as an accent, adding a quirky, enigmatic narrative touch.
Beyond simply showcasing the cuteness of a Sailor suit, this series embodies an attitude of exploring bold, unconventional rock frontiers. I hope it brings everyone a refreshing visual surprise. The shooting journey was a blast; though physically exhausting, it was creatively exhilarating. It has sparked endless inspiration for future projects—perhaps next time I'll fuse even more traditional folk instruments into modern music styles to pursue thrilling visual expressions.
