This was my first time doing a Robin cosplay, and to be honest, I felt quite unconfident during the preliminary preparations. The details of this outfit were far more numerous than imagined; just matching the white off-the-shoulder short top with the orange short skirt required me to repeatedly adjust it against the original artwork several times. The golden halo atop my head with its transparent support frame, along with the purple-and-white gradient feather hair ornaments on both sides, required extreme care when putting on, otherwise they easily tilted and ruined the overall proportions. I specifically trimmed the bangs of the wig and added a slightly curled arc. To match that energetic vibe, the eye makeup purposely opted for pink-toned blending paired with green contact lenses, and it took the makeup artist nearly an hour to help adjust my eye shape.
When arriving at the Black Dragonfly Anime Convention site, changing into the full gear and holding that bottle of orange soda as a prop allowed me to slip into character instantly. To be honest, standing in the venue initially made me a bit nervous, given this was a character I had poured immense heart into recreating. But what surprised me was how extraordinarily enthusiastic everyone was. From morning till afternoon, people constantly came over asking about Taking photos with cosplayers at conventions. I just stood there, repeatedly striking poses holding the drink, or doing over-the-shoulder looks and arm extensions. Although my shoulders and legs ached slightly from standing for long stretches, hearing everyone say they loved this character or praise the costume's details made my heart truly happy.
Doing cosplay is actually physical labor, especially at large-scale Anime conventions like this. To keep the costume smooth and the wig styled, I tried to avoid crowded, packed areas, occasionally hunting for a slightly empty corner to rest for a moment. The drink held in my hand actually served as a wonderful buffer prop; whether gazing down at it or raising it up with a smile, it made the entire shooting process feel much more natural and everyday-like. The me in the photos looks rather relaxed, but behind that lay countless adjustments and retakes. Portraying Robin this time feels like fulfilling a small wish of mine, while also letting me meet many friends who share the same deep passion for this work.
The atmosphere of conventions always makes people forget their exhaustion; gathering together because of a shared hobby yields a pure joy that is exceedingly rare. The outfit brought this time, though carrying minor flaws, achieved the overall visual effect I expected. While shooting, as the light struck my body, the note patterns on the garment and the orange-toned color blocking looked exceptionally vibrant. Looking back at this photo set, every single shot recorded the most authentic state of that moment. I hope there will be a chance next time to return with even more refined props and styling, meeting everyone at different active venues and continuing to enjoy this energetic, passionate convention time.
