[Rappa cosplay] The Phantom of Penacony: Slashing Through the Dimensional Reality with a Large Weapon

Stepping out from the dream aesthetics of Penacony into reality, I finally feel confident enough to document this Rappa cosplay suit. The very first time I saw this character in-game, I was hooked by that relaxed yet disruptive street vibe, and ever since then, I've been endlessly yearning to bring her styling into reality. During the Lunar New Year, I couldn't resist using my little savings to fuel my passion, paying the full amount for the outfit and props in one go—though my wallet hurt, the moment I got my hands on them, it felt immensely satisfying.

Anyone familiar with my output style knows that I rarely portray ultra-cute or soft, girlish characters; that innocent-eyed, little-dresses style simply doesn't fit my aesthetic comfort zone. Honestly, I much prefer the badass, cool vibe of wielding a Large weapon over those types of roles! Holding a massive scythe taller than myself, paired with bold, expressive body postures, standing in front of the lens with that kind of commanding aura is completely different. Portraying characters like this genuinely boosts my self-confidence.

The prop quality this time is phenomenal, with a crimson lacquered finish accented by yellow edges, making it look and feel substantial. Wielding and swinging it around in hand imparts a tangible, weighty heft, fully living up to that high-impact, dynamic design. As for the Cosplay outfit, I am especially fond of the flowing long red ribbons at the hem of the jacket, along with the blue canteen prop hanging from the waist. The upper body features a cropped, midriff-baring design, layered over a black fishnet inner top, paired with patent-leather black micro-shorts, creating an exceptionally rich visual layering through this combination.

The lower body details are fascinatingly intricate, featuring an asymmetrical trouser design where one leg has a loose black pant-leg with a cutout on the thigh exposing the leg contours, while the other leg is completely bare. The absolute standout highlight is the pair of big-toe sandals and platform shoes on my feet. Such avant-garde split-toe/platform footwear is notoriously difficult to pull off in traditional cosplay, but on this character, it fits that rebellious, untamable temperament to perfection. The thick soles also effectively elongate the overall body proportions, which, when combined with the black fishnet on the thigh, exudes a deeply wild and rebellious atmosphere.

During the photoshoot, we purposefully selected a black circular pedestal stage; standing atop it felt just like being on an in-game showcase platform. For posing, I wanted something full of dynamic tension and punchy energy—whether hoisting the weapon high overhead, balancing on a single leg, or squatting down into a combat-ready opening stance, I pushed myself to accurately capture her agile yet dangerous essence. Characters with oversized weapons and heavy physical presence heavily test core strength and physical coordination during posing, requiring you to find that absolute sweet spot where weapon and body achieve pristine balance.

Throughout the shoot, the photographer added a subtle green rim light underneath, which, paired with the original white soft-box background, beautifully sculpted the glossy texture of the patent leather shorts and black fishnets, preventing things from looking too flat against the pure white backdrop. The fabric reflections of this outfit were spot-on; both textiles and leather rendered gorgeous textures under studio lighting, blending harmoniously with the character's original art design.

Every time I tackle a character with such demanding physical and temperament requirements who also wields a Large weapon, it feels like a brand-new breakthrough for myself. Preparing the makeup, styling, and props took a considerable amount of time this round, but seeing the final outcome made every bit of effort utterly worth it. Staring at the finished shots, it felt as though Penacony's street culture had truly crossed over into reality; that sense of fulfillment from the shooting process and the resulting pictures is precisely why I stick with Cosplay outfit creation. I hope to keep exploring more possibilities within this style in the future, bringing all those fiercely dashing characters to life one by one.
