This Hatsune Miku cosplay Studio shoot featuring the Vocaloid Rabbit Hole Bunny girl theme went remarkably smoothly from booking the studio to the final export. We used a Fujifilm X-S10 paired with a 27mm f/1.2 lens; the graffiti wall and retro red leather sofa inside the practical studio set carried strong visual impact. The wide aperture beautifully threw the neon lights and traffic signals in the background into soft bokeh, locking all visual focus onto the character.
The glossy black patent leather bodysuit reflected the studio lighting gorgeously, though it also easily highlights any minor bodily flaws, so adjusting its fit took quite some time. The thick red rope bindings and crimson neck bow tie created a bold color contrast. Fishnet stockings and pink leg garters are classic Bunny girl staples, which, paired with kneeling on the couch, beautifully elongated the leg silhouettes. The pink leather wristbands and the white fluffy tail in the back added plenty of playful charm. For makeup, light blue-purple twintails with pink-purple gradient tips, heart-shaped hairpieces, and small red face motifs were all personalized adaptations of the classic Vocaloid icon.
Throughout the shoot, I constantly pondered how to seamlessly blend Bunny girl allure with edgy street fashion. In the shot where I kneel on the sofa looking back, twisting the torso fully was necessary to showcase the backline and bunny tail, while keeping facial expressions relaxed and looking straight into the lens. Holding up the Ace of Hearts playing card was an impromptu idea, giving off a magician or Harley Quinn vibe alongside the red ropes. Red and yellow lights from the traffic signal washed over the profile of my face, creating rich warm-toned layers against the red sofa.
Because I naturally adore the expanding stylistic universe of Hatsune Miku, I knew I had to shoot this Rabbit Hole concept the moment it dropped. Just as said in the caption, there's no boundary between "love" and "super-love," and cosplay is no different—as long as it's a character and concept you cherish, spending hours perfecting every detail is pure joy. Posing while holding white paper rabbit ears, straddling the sofa, or raising a hand while leaning against the armrest—all were captured through trial and error with photographer Niu Niu.
Fujifilm's color science truly saved a ton of grading time in post-production. The 27mm focal length was spot-on for an indoor practical Studio shoot—neither too wide to cause edge distortion nor too tight to restrict movement. Although the session was tiring, seeing the final cuts made everything completely worthwhile.
