[Hatsune Miku Cosplay] The Nurse in the Rabbit Hole: Visual Tension in the Clash of Black and White

This set of Hatsune Miku cosplay convention photos as a Rabbit Hole nurse was taken at an anime convention quite a long time ago. Looking back at them now, I still miss the unique nighttime atmosphere of conventions back then. The core of this shoot was to materialize the mysterious, playful, yet slightly dangerous nurse image from the song "Rabbit Hole". A lot of thought went into the makeup and styling. This wig with ice blue fading into pink twin tails was actually super heavy. To keep the hair strands looking naturally fluffy and flowing during the shoot, I had to adjust the wig's fastening position several times before I managed to keep the twin tails from swaying wildly. The cross mark on the forehead and the extensive pink blush under the eyes were the soul of this look, which, paired with light blue contact lenses, made the eyes look even more ethereal and striking. In the eye makeup, I deliberately heavy-blended the lower eyeshadow to create that slightly sickly cute feel in the picture.

The white short-sleeved one-piece nurse outfit selected was quite form-fitting. Leaving plenty of neck space and paired with a white nurse hat, the visual center of the upper body concentrated on the face. For the lower body, it was paired with sheer black tights. Since this set was shot in the Year of the Rabbit, I intentionally added small pink decorations and beaded bracelets at the waist and wrists to echo the synth-girl vibe of the song. White patent leather high heels were chosen for shoes, featuring a striking red sole. When standing or kneeling, the clash of red, white, and black created richer visual depth in the photos.

We didn't choose overly complex scenes during Cosplay photography. Since it was outdoors at night at the convention, the pitch-black background acted like a natural studio. Direct flash on the person actually allowed the large white nurse dress and bright wig to pop in the picture. A white plush rug had to be laid on the ground; it not only blocked the cold from the ground but also added a touch of soft texture to the bottom of the composition. As for pose design, these photos attempted sitting, kneeling while looking back, and single-leg standing poses. I personally prefer the full-body shot standing on one leg and turning back—that motion naturally presented the cinched waist of the nurse outfit and the leg lines extended by black tights. The shot reaching forward was meant to create an intimate sense of interaction with the audience off-screen. My younger self back then was still a bit green in front of the lens; many details, like the curve of arm placement or the angle of head tilt, were attempts to find the state that best suited the character.

Finally, I want to echo the quote in the post about "taking good care of yourself." Indeed, convention shoots are often a dual test of physical strength and energy. Walking around the venue in platform shoes to find spots, or waiting until late at night just for a background without passersby, puts a heavy strain on knees and waist. Doing Nurse cosplay and other cosplays over the past few years has made me realize the importance of physical condition even more. Not just during the shooting days, but everyday diet and routine also require extra attention to ensure presenting the best state in front of the lens. I hope friends who like this style can also feel that unique atmosphere from it.
