The theme of this shoot is 'Boats east and west, lingering zither melodies echoing in the heart.' First, I'd like to apologize to everyone: this styling for Luo Tianyi is an OOC derivative design that I self-coordinated based purely on this poetic line, rather than adhering strictly to canonical designs. I hope everyone can be open to this stylistic experimentation.
Regarding the outfit, the upper body features a blue stand-collar capelet with white paneling and golden trim, accented by a golden ribbon bow on the chest. The inner piece is a black tube top edged with white lace, offering a distinct color contrast. The arms are fitted with blue sleeves that flare into wide purple sheer bell cuffs, providing a flowing sense of motion with every movement. A blue satin bow is tied at the waist, centered with a golden metallic ornament and flanked by pink faux blossoms. The skirt follows a three-tier construction: an outer layer of purple-to-pink gradient sheer tulle, a middle pink skirt, and an innermost white pleated underskirt. For the prop, I carried a white embroidered Round fan adorned with pink floral motifs, its handle trailing long pink tassels.
The shooting location was a classical garden featuring artificial rockeries, lush foliage, and waterscapes. The first set of photos was captured waterside, leaning against vermilion pillars with weeping willows and shimmering water in the background; the soft ambient light clearly illuminated the blue and purple tones of the attire. The second set moved in front of the rockeries, framed against dark gray stones and green pine needles; the comparatively dimmer lighting here better accentuated my silhouette and the vibrant color contrast of the costume. To interact with the scenery, I tried half-concealing my face with the fan, resting one hand on the waist, and spreading my arms wide to enrich my body language. To harmonize with the mood of lingering melodies, I visualized holding an instrument while posing with the fan, attempting to convey a classical emotional nuance through my gaze and hand gestures.
The garments are primarily crafted from sheer chiffon and satin, translating beautifully under natural daylight. However, when shooting by the rockery, the cluttered background required precise composition to keep the subject centered and avoid stray weeds and wild vines. For makeup, green colored contacts were paired with reddish eye shading to evoke a subtly ethereal or cool, mystical presence, though the final images turned out rather soft and gentle. The wig bangs were carefully styled and fixed; with the heavy golden crown, flowers, and dangling tassels, securing the headdress took countless bobby pins, requiring frequent realignments whenever drafts of wind picked up.
In truth, the most tedious aspect of this shoot was anchoring the wig and headdress; the weight of the golden tiara, floral pieces, and tassels made them prone to shifting in strong breezes. Wearing the ensemble was equally intricate, requiring extensive adjustments to make the capelet sit seamlessly over the inner top. I hope you all enjoy this set, which represents my visual interpretation of this poetic motif.
