Putting on this purple Poison Master attire and sitting down amidst a room full of wisteria and butterfly shadows, I finally felt the true reality of being a disciple of the Five Poisons Sect. For this shoot, we specially built a dark, eerie blue background, using a beam of warm side light to pierce through the textures of the purple gauze curtains and the skirt hem.
The butterfly prop in the frame has quite some weight. To make it hover above the side, we messed around with a lot of stands on site. Also, those seemingly lightweight silver headpieces and tassels took us half an hour just to adjust the center of gravity and balance. Fortunately, the photographer was great at capturing angles, especially those sitting close-ups—the gaze and the drape of the hands were just right, which, paired with a cool expression, perfectly captured that morally ambiguous temperament of the Five Poisons Sect. On the hair accessories, I used many fine silver bells and ribbons of the same color palette; the texture of these details alone could hold up the frame. Complemented by the embellishments of skulls and withered branches, it creates an atmosphere of a secluded valley, deep forest, and the nocturnal march of ten thousand poisons.
Although the outer layer of this costume looks elegant and flowy, the inner base layer and girdle are extremely tight. To maintain an upright posture, I shot for a whole day, and my shoulders were indeed a bit sore when we wrapped up in the evening. However, seeing the final photos, all the complicated preparations were entirely worth it. Purple is indeed very difficult to capture with distinct layers; it easily looks monotonous if you're not careful. Therefore, we used a large amount of diffuse reflection light to make transitions, giving the purple a beautiful gradient from shadows to highlights. The atmosphere of this entire photo set relies mostly on the physical props on site and real smoke rendering, without intentionally adding post-production special effects—I only wanted to present a textured image of the Poison Master. Would you be willing to follow me into the poison? I look forward to you sensing those self-evident details in the frame. This artistic work stands as a proud addition to my collection of JX3 cosplay and Ancient style cosplay.
