The moment I stepped into this forest, the light happened to pierce through the treetops. This time, I’m bringing you my photo archive of Kochiya Sanae Cosplay. To present the sense of sacredness and approachability of being both a shrine maiden and a living god as set in Mountain of Faith, I specifically chose this woodland with dappled natural light as the background. The wig is a clear light green, which forms a very soft rim light under the sunset backlight—a prominent advantage of outdoor photography. As for the costume, the patchwork of white chiffon and blue diamond grid patterns on the outfit is key to recreating this character's attire. The iconic frog hair ornament and the plush doll accessory at my side not only increase recognizability but also make the overall look more vivid. Combined with the bell prop in my hand, I hope to capture her lively yet somewhat pious, agile posture. In terms of camera positioning, the photographer deliberately used a natural framing composition. The shots with my hands cupping my face try to present a relaxed, lazy side of the character in the forest, while the ones holding the bell and the full-body wide shots focus on displaying the interaction with the prop and the overall drape of the costume. Actually, conducting cosplay photography outdoors really tests one's control over the natural lighting environment. Any slight deviation in the angle and intensity of light affects the final photos, but fortunately, this set ultimately preserved the unique golden atmosphere of the forest sunset. To align with the traits of an anime character, I specially used light-colored contact lenses, chose a soft and natural approach for the eye makeup, and kept the lip color on the pale side, hoping to create Sanae's fresh and pure texture. Regarding the props, the texture and positioning of the bell and the red-and-white braided cords were also adjusted multiple times to ensure they have a presence in the frame without overpowering the scene. This outdoor photoshoot is one of my more satisfying sets of Kochiya Sanae recently. It can showcase the tranquility of the woods through wide angles, while also conveying the character's expressions through close-up shots. Characters from the Touhou series often carry a unique narrative. When interpreting them, besides replicating the look, I also hope to convey her sense of conviction as the shrine maiden of the Moriya Shrine.
