For this Outdoor cosplay shoot of Kochiya Sanae, we specifically sought out a grove with dense vegetation. Because the character's primary color palette consists of soft blue and green hues, having an adequately rich green background allowed the figure to pop without looking washed out. The daylight was great during the shoot; despite the dense foliage, the occasional dapples of sunlight filtering down fell directly onto the semi-sheer outer coat, making the morning glory patterns shimmer subtly—a texture far more lively and organic than studio lighting could ever achieve.

Let's talk about the costume details first. The white cropped sailor-collar top paired with the light green pleated skirt features a tailored fit that accentuates the waistline. The semi-translucent overshirt patterned with morning glories serves as the visual centerpiece; its wide, flowing sleeves look breathtaking when raising arms or twirling. The only drawback was that forest twigs easily snagged the delicate fabric, so every movement required utmost care. On the legs, I wore knee-high Black stockings paired with brown leather shoes; this contrast between black and white grounded the lighter palette of the outfit while flattering the leg contours.

For props, the long red ritual staff required firm single- or two-handed gripping, detailed with golden ornaments at the top and colorful trailing ribbons at the end. Initially, we worried the ribbons might look cluttered in a forest setting, but during live shooting, we realized that whenever the wind picked up, the fluttering ribbons instantly broke the stillness of the frame, infusing the look with vibrant grace. To capture the perfect angle of the ribbons taking flight, we repeatedly tested raising and waving gestures throughout the woods.

The shooting process was far less effortless than the finished photos might suggest. The forest environment was challenging—not only with biting insects, but also soft, muddy soil where leather shoes sank in easily. To avoid slipping, we scouted areas with stone paths and abandoned railway tracks. The set along the railway was shot last; blessed with deep background perspective, I walked forward with my back to the lens, arms raised sideways to balance—in that exact moment, I truly felt immersed into this lush green realm of Touhou Gensokyo.

As a fan of Touhou Project, pouring heart and soul into preparing this Outdoor cosplay—from wardrobe styling and prop nuances to scouting the perfect location—was demanding yet utterly rewarding when seeing the final frames. Outdoor shoots come with many uncontrollable variables, but it is precisely these authentic tree shadows and natural breezes that breathe a vitality into the photos that no indoor studio could ever replicate.
