[Focalors cosplay] Framed with Neuvillette: Capturing Genshin Impact's Fontaine Duo Cosplay Bond

This set of duo client photos featuring Focalors and Neuvillette was shot at a Shanghai self-photo studio. As the Focalors cosplayer for this shoot, I would like to share from a cosplayer's perspective the preparation and actual shooting process behind this photo set.

In terms of costume styling, Focalors' outfit silhouette has an exceptional sense of design. The high-collared white inner top is spliced with a dark blue corset featuring gold patterns, where the hollow-out neckline cuts and chest details heavily test the garment's fit. The skirt fabric was carefully layered—the outer layer is an ice-blue draped fabric accented with gold lines, displaying excellent depth whether walking or sitting. The wig transitions in a gradient from light blue to silver-white; to fix that iconic strand of curled bangs at the crown, we used quite a few styling techniques, while the drape of the large ponytail and direction of hair strands required meticulous combing. My partner's Neuvillette cosplay outfit also possessed rich texture, with the dark blue oversized coat edged in exquisite gold trimming, while the white cravat and standing collar perfectly underscored the character's aristocratic poise. The wing-shaped ornaments on the coat and the gradient color of the jacket looked remarkably striking under the lights.

We chose two completely distinct scenes for the shoot. One set was shot in front of a clean, light gray seamless backdrop; the advantage of this high-contrast studio shoot is allowing the viewer's focus to fully converge on the characters' expressions and costume details. Duo cosplay posing under this minimalist backdrop was packed with tension—whether exchanging eye contact or leaning on one another, it delivered a crisp and pure visual sense. The other set featured a meticulously arranged vintage French afternoon tea scene. The set boasted tall dark red velvet drapes, a carved vintage wooden frame mirror, and an extremely comfortable brown leather sofa. On the small round table, we set a two-tier dessert stand loaded with cupcakes, macarons, and pink drinks, alongside goblet glasses and a scepter prop studded with a blue gem. Building this immersive lifestyle scene brought the characters instantly into a realistic social setting.

During the actual shoot, the chemistry and coordination between the two of us were the biggest highlight. My partner as Neuvillette performed very professionally in front of the lens; whether sitting composedly or casting down his eyes with gentle warmth, it gave me a strong sense of immersion. Meanwhile, as Focalors, I needed to present an elegant yet mysterious aura before the camera. We attempted various poses, such as sitting together on the red sofa in Figure 3 with hands clasped, as well as different hand gestures while holding props. Honestly, in the studio, beyond the physical weight of the costumes themselves, finding the optimal light position within complex set design while keeping wigs pristine and garments wrinkle-free was also quite a test.

Completing this client photo set was not merely putting on character garments, but an immersion into character storytelling. The lighting at the Shanghai self-photo studio was highly professional, and under the photographer's guidance, we found many comfortable yet visually striking camera languages. Being able to freeze the classic interactive dynamic of these two characters from Genshin Impact into photos brought immense fulfillment as a cosplayer. The process on shooting day was exhausting due to the heavy gear, but looking at the final results made all the tedious adjustments and position tuning feel entirely worth it. I hope this sharing—from costume materials and scene setups to bodily expressions—allows everyone to appreciate the conceptualization and execution behind a high-quality cosplay creation.
