[Columbina Cosplay] Genshin Impact Custom Angel Look Descends upon Universal Studios Beijing

This time, I brought a custom-styled Columbina to Universal Studios Beijing for an outdoor portrait session. While preserving the character's original sense of mystery, I made subtle adjustments toward a more casual, youthful vibe. Navigating the park in search of shooting angles under Beijing's blazing summer sun was certainly physically demanding, but the natural lighting shining on the props and outfit offered a texture completely different from studio shoots.

Let's start with the core concept of this look. The outfit features a pink-and-white Lolita outfit retaining layered ruffles, lace trims, and off-the-shoulder cuts, creating a visually lightweight aesthetic. The white winged headpiece is the absolute highlight of this ensemble—not only offering pure, wing-like shapes, but the additional white sheer ribbons also flutter gracefully in the breeze as I walk, enhancing a sense of dynamic lightness. For the wig, I specifically chose a black base with magenta-highlighted tips, which adds delicate detail compared to plain black hair while subtly echoing the pink tones of the dress.

For footwear, instead of simple flats, I opted for white lace-up platform shoes paired with pure white tights. This flatters the leg proportions while visually unifying the large areas of white. The white ribbon bows wrapped around the wrists serve as accents that echo nicely with the lace choker and heart pendant around the neck, creating a cohesive set of elements overall.

Speaking of locations at Universal Studios, I deliberately avoided peak crowd hours when picking shot locations. The British-style dessert shop storefront and retro wooden doorframes shown in the photos matched this pink-and-white outfit remarkably well; soft sunlight illuminating the wooden walls naturally imparted a fairytale vibe. Meanwhile, the massive globe landmark behind me is an iconic feature of Universal Studios Beijing. To separate the subject from the busy background, the photographer used a slightly longer focal length to compress and blur the background naturally, preserving the ambient atmosphere without letting the background overpower the subject.

As for the makeup, to complement this angelic visual style, the base makeup needed to be translucent and clean, achieving an almost flawless porcelain skin finish. The eye makeup emphasized the eyelashes and lowered lower-eyelid line, combined with subtle shimmering eyeshadow to give the gaze an innocent yet lively look. Under-eye blush effectively filled facial negative space, enhancing a youthful and playful charm that gave the complexion a healthy, vibrant glow.

Regarding the "custom outfit" concept, in cosplay I prioritize retaining the character's core essence—such as Columbina's distant yet innocent vibe. Thus, in terms of emotional expression, I didn't force big smiles, maintaining instead a relatively calm, gentle, and slightly aloof demeanor. However, tweaking the clothing palette and styling towards a sweeter aesthetic makes this photo set an alternative interpretation of the original character. The outfit fabric didn't reflect harshly under intense sunlight, absorbing and softening the light beautifully, which rendered the skin texture exceptionally soft in photos.

Finally, a quick sharing on my photoshoot experience. In crowded real-world locations like Universal Studios, the hardest part of cosplay photography is waiting for that moment when the frame is clear. I usually decide on the composition first, estimate where the subject will stand, and snap the shot immediately as surrounding tourists disperse or pass by. Facing the light is crucial; real-world locations easily cause harsh shadows across the face, so facing the light source directly while using reflectors or bright white ground surfaces as natural fill light ensures even lighting on the face.

Many of the captured shutter moments were actually the most natural postures caught during casual walking, without forcing intricate poses—just showcasing a relaxed day at the park. Looking at the whole set, the alignment between light, atmosphere, and outfit turned out quite satisfying. Combining ACG characters with real-world theme park settings is an idea I hope to explore further with more exciting themes in the future.
