The natural lighting and interior architecture of Shanghai Joy City have always been ideal backdrops for convention photos, especially when cosplaying Firefly from Honkai: Star Rail. The overall color palette of the outfit leans toward cool white and cyan-blue, paired with a black jacket accented with gold trim, which creates rich visual depth under soft ambient light. Collaborating with photographer Feiyali no Yukikaze on this shoot, our main creative vision was to capture the contrast between the character's gentle demeanor amidst floral scenery and the real-world setting.
For makeup and styling, I wore light purple-gray contacts to echo the character's eye color, paired with a gradient wig transitioning from white to cyan. Managing the straight bangs across the forehead took considerable care, requiring precise trimming to maintain an airy, breathing texture without feeling heavy. The dark hairband at the crown is inlaid with teal rhinestone accents, while the deep blue ribbon ties on the sides drape gracefully over the shoulders during movement or breezes, serving as a lovely embellishment. Minimalist accessories with ethnic elements like these heavily test the wig's luster and styling stability. To complement the overall aesthetic, I wore White tights, creating a seamless color transition between the upper and lower halves of the costume while honoring the character's pristine, pure temperament in specific scenes.
The venue saw significant foot traffic on shooting day, but fortunately, the lighting around the cherry blossom installation was pleasantly even. The selected photos showcase varied compositions and poses, ranging from the interactive feel of reaching out an arm to the adorable gesture of forming a hand heart. I personally recommend the front-facing hand-heart shot chosen for the cover: the facial expression is naturally relaxed while my body's posture harmonizes with the trailing cherry blossom branches. Accented by the styling details of the White tights and fingerless gloves, the entire image radiates inviting warmth and charm.
When posing, I took care to prevent deep, awkward fabric creases caused by unstable footing. The chest features yellow cross-diamond ribbon streamers paired with a cyan gem brooch, details that reveal gorgeous texture in close-up shots. The black-and-white jacket features a subtle capelet cut, where the white sleeves and black fingerless gloves balance the character's gentle exterior with heroic poise. I've always felt that Firefly's narrative blend of interwoven memories and reality in Honkai: Star Rail is deeply moving, so during this shoot, I intentionally kept the emotional tone poised within an ambiance of tenderness, clarity, and subtle longing.
Overall, this shoot was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, where the bustling energy of Shanghai Joy City and the tranquility of the pink floral tree installation formed a wonderful contrast. During the shoot, the photographer's mastery of framing was exceptionally professional, utilizing depth of field and bokeh orbs to isolate and highlight the subject amidst the bustling convention environment. Photography demands immense patience to refine lighting and angles; we captured multiple perspectives—including high-angle, eye-level, and medium close-up shots—ultimately curating these peak moments for these Convention photos. The styling nuances, makeup harmony, and venue backdrop came together to achieve a level of completion that fully lived up to my expectations.
