This Phrolova cosplay shoot from Wuthering Waves took nearly a month of preparation from start to finish. From trimming the wig and finalizing the makeup to styling the props, I wanted to capture her distinct temperament faithfully at every step. Because Phrolova is canonically designed with mint-green hair, I went through several wigs to find the perfect shade. I then cut blunt bangs with a slightly disheveled texture and braided the long hair into a low, loose plait; paired with crimson hair accessories, it created a striking contrast. For makeup, the base was deliberately made porcelain pale, focusing on the eyes with generous washes of crimson eyeshadow blended beneath the eyes and across the outer corners. Combined with winged eyeliner and red lips, when I kept a straight face, that detached, aloof aura came through effortlessly.
For the wardrobe, I chose a white tulle dress accented with red ribbons on the chest and waist. To enhance dimensional layering, white lace sleeve covers were added to the shoulders and arms; these detached flared sleeves flatter the arm contours beautifully on camera. For the lower half, I styled it with white patterned Stockings and white chunky heels. The white Stockings unified the overarching color palette, while the chunky heels provided elevation and solid stability when balancing on the sofa. The prop wand adorned with a red spider lily in my hand was also handcrafted specifically to echo the headpiece.
The setting was arranged in a vintage Gothic style interior, where deep red drapes, a crimson velvet sofa, and golden frames formed the foundational palette. Sitting on the sofa, I tried poses playing the violin and leafing through sheet music; the addition of the violin deepened the narrative storytelling of the scene. During shooting, the photographer utilized rim backlighting, casting a translucent luster across the mint-green wig and creating a vibrant warm-and-cool contrast against the sprawling crimson background. In posing, I kept my limbs elongated and relaxed—leaning against the sofa armrest to draw the bow, or sitting atop the red drapery gazing into the lens. Controlling my gaze was critical for this shoot; I kept repeating her dialogue in my mind, immersing myself in that resolute state of someone who has waited far too long and finally decided to wait no more.
Throughout the shoot, constantly adjusting poses on the sofa in high heels was tiring, but seeing the play of light, shadow, and color in the final frames proved that every bit of preparation was worth it. From the white tulle dress and red ribbons to the vintage velvet setting, this Anime cosplay aimed for utmost precision from styling to post-processing.
