For this Sangonomiya Kokomi shoot, a tremendous amount of care was devoted to prop preparation. To faithfully recreate her iconic jellyfish parasol, we experimented with numerous materials before settling on semi-sheer PVC layered with holographic laser film, cleverly weaving cold LED light strips inside. When opened against the nighttime darkness, it casts that shimmering translucence and bioluminescent glow of a drifting jellyfish. Every transparent ribbon-tentacle along the parasol's edge had to be anchored meticulously by hand so they fluttered gracefully in the sea breeze, capturing that weightless, ethereal flow.
As for the costume, this violet-and-blue centered gown layers multiple swathes of delicate sheer tulle edged with intricate white lace trims, which reveal gorgeous tactile textures under studio lighting. To harmonize with the overall aesthetic, I wore a gradient wig in matching pastel hues, with the top styling and cascading side locks shaped meticulously. The purple choker around the neck and the semi-sheer white thigh-high Stockings accented with tiny purple bows at the cuffs were subtle details chosen to elevate the character's delicate refinement.
In makeup, I emphasized smooth color transitions across the eyes, blending bluish-purple eyeshadow gradients paired with large-diameter colored contacts to convey a gaze that is both exceptionally gentle and subtly enigmatic. My nails were manicured in soft lilac; though barely noticeable in wide shots, overall aesthetic cohesion makes a huge difference in the final deliverables.
The shoot took place at night along a rugged pebbled shore. The pitch-black surroundings demanded extreme precision in lighting design: the front required soft, luminous fill to keep facial skin tones radiant, while being careful not to overpower the bioluminescent glow radiating from the jellyfish parasol. Finding that exact lighting balance and light ratio took multiple rounds of testing. The relentless sea breeze kept threatening to tilt the parasol, requiring constant wrist adjustments to preserve that effortless, floating poise before the camera.
Holding this massive luminous parasol while balancing against coastal winds was physically demanding, yet seeing the eerie, enchanting blue glow emanating from the canopy and the translucent tentacles trailing below felt like being genuinely submerged in the abyss of the deep sea. In choreographing my poses, I softened every gesture—such as gently extending an arm outward, as if feeling the ocean currents caress my fingertips. 'If possible, I want to take you diving into the sea with me.' This isn't just a line from the lore; it was the core emotion I wanted each frame to breathe. I hope this photo set brings everyone a moment of peaceful tranquility and wondrous beauty from Kokomi's realm.
