[Phrolova Cosplay] The Gorgeous Shadow of Red and Black Gothic Style in Wuthering Waves

This time, the shoot for Phrolova experimented with a rather dark Gothic style cosplay visual keynote. The setup of the entire studio utilized a large area of red velvet curtains and gorgeous European-style furniture to match the character's mystery. Before the shoot, considering that the costume has highly eye-catching structural elements, such as that black metal cage hoop skirt, as well as the deep red petticoat and ruffles, the focus when communicating with the photographer was to capture these complex layers.

For the costume part, the hair color and texture of the light cyan wig are key to restoring the character. The blunt bangs and long straight hair form an excellent highlight effect under post-processing soft lighting. The black choker with a red rose around the neck serves as a visual focus, both breaking the monotony of the large red and black areas and reinforcing the character's noble yet dangerous feel. The lace-up details of the corset and the black outer sleeves, combined with the high-gloss black thick-soled short boots, make the overall look appear heavily detailed without losing lightweight lines.

In terms of shooting lighting, we didn't use flat lighting but deliberately arranged high-contrast local light sources. The dark areas were pressed very deep, letting the light fall only on the character and the reflective areas of the floor. The most direct benefit of this processing method through dark style photography is that the texture of the black costume and the layers of the red skirt hem can be completely pulled apart, preventing the colors from blurring together. The highly reflective black floors in the photo are a big plus for the venue; when shooting full-body shots, it directly utilized the reflections to expand the spatial depth, making the frame look as if it wasn't shot in a small room.

During the shooting process, due to the special structure of the cage hoop skirt, it easily looks bloated in the lower body when sitting. Therefore, for those few shots on the sofa, I specially adjusted my sitting posture, trying my best to tilt my legs to the side so that the leg lines could be completely revealed, while the reflection of the boots could also elongate the visual proportions. For the standing shots, I intentionally straightened my body, utilizing hand gestures and gazes to convey the character's composure and pride. The few shots with overhead backlight created a very thick misty atmosphere. The photographer added foreground-blurred obstacles in front of the viewfinder, forming a unique frame composition and enriching the stylistic elements of this set of photos.

The shooting process was actually quite physically exhausting; standing for a long time in this skeleton hoop skirt can feel tight and restricting. However, the final gorgeous feel amidst the quiet darkness made me feel that this attempt was completely worth it. The entire set of photos pursues an immersive dark fairy-tale experience with a vintage portrait vibe. The toughness of the light and shadow contrasts with the softness of the clothing, balancing the character's own temperament and the retro atmosphere of the scene. It is a highly completed cosplay work that aligns with my personal expectations.
