I put a lot of thought into this look for Furina cosplay, from the early preparations to the final photos. The costume itself has many details worth mentioning, such as the wide-brimmed hat with a manually adjusted frame, and the gauze fabric of the skirt hem that gradients from deep blue to bright white like ocean waves. The neck features a combination of a black velvet choker and a white bow, paired with fine-textured long blue gloves on the arms and a gem-embellished waistband—every element emphasizes the unique elegance and magnificence of the Hydro Archon.
The wig used a light silver-blue base with a bright blue highlight, which, paired with clear blue colored contacts, made capturing the character's temperament much more natural. To better fit the camera effects, the base makeup was specially adjusted to a clean and translucent texture, allowing for a higher integration of skin tone and hair color.
Many thanks to the photographer @f@飛鳥Asuka for the on-site guidance. Choosing an outdoor shoot around European-style architecture at night truly tested our control over light and shadow. We utilized the warm-toned streetlights on-site combined with an outdoor flash as the light source. The lighting ratio was controlled precisely, preserving the texture of the background iron railings while creating a shimmering water-like refraction on the glittering fabric of the skirt hem.
Many friends often ask how to avoid stray light during a Night portrait shoot; the key actually lies in understanding the direction of the light source. This time, we placed the main rim light behind and to the side of the character. This not only outlined the edges of the hat and wig to give the hair more layers, but the frontal fill light from a softbox also illuminated the face without creating harsh shadows, thereby preserving the soft skin texture. The skin tone of the legs and the shoes were also unified with the overall color scheme, avoiding any jarring whiteness.
During the shoot, we mainly adopted some casual sitting poses and actions like leaning against the steps, such as holding the brim of the wide-brimmed hat while looking down, or playing with the edge of the gloves. These postures, combined with expression management, strove to recreate Furina's theatrical sense—full of stage presence, confident, yet slightly lazy.
There is a fascinating sense of life drama within the character of Furina; she is lively and even a bit exaggerated in her daily life, yet shows a sense of loneliness and vulnerability once her disguise is shed. This Cosplay photography session was not just about presenting her gorgeous appearance, but more about capturing this contradictory yet unified aesthetic in her eyes and micro-expressions. The contrast between the cold wind during the outdoor shoot and the warm lighting precisely echoed the emotional temperature difference within the character's heart. However, immersing myself in it to experience the character's emotions and freezing this trait with the lens made the entire Roleplay process highly fulfilling. In the future, I will continue to explore more facets of this character from Genshin Impact across various settings.
