The convention photos from the Changsha ACC ACG Expo are finally sorted, so I'd like to use this swimsuit Furina set to share my shooting thoughts and behind-the-scenes prep. Preparing for this convention took quite some time. First was the wig: Furina's hair is that distinct white tinged with pale blue with pronounced layering; to achieve an airy, fluffy volume, I had to work over it with hairspray and flat irons every morning before heading out. That iconic ahoge cowlick and hairpiece on the crown were the trickiest to anchor—with heavy foot traffic and strong drafts across the venue floor, I had to rely on a handful of bobby pins to keep it sitting rock-solid. On the makeup front, to align with the character's temperament, I wore ice-blue contact lenses and deliberately intensified the blush beneath my eyes, giving the eye makeup a subtly flushed, playful mood, paired with a juicy, sheer jelly lip tint to channel an overall look brimming with vitality.
Wardrobe-wise, this swimsuit ensemble actually features rich layering: the vest-style top sports black-and-blue stripes with star accents, layered over a light-colored underlayer. The midriff-baring cut places slight demands on the waistline, so I watched my diet a bit leading up to the convention. The denim shorts on the bottom feature intentional distressing and raw fringed hems; the blue satin ribbons, tassels, and star charms around the waist were pinned on one by one in strict accordance with the character design. I strapped a black heart garter around my thigh, carefully coordinating leg warmers and star-embellished sandals. The biggest undertaking was definitely the signature weapon scepter in hand: while it looks like lightweight blue-and-white material, it holds noticeable physical heft. To make swings and action snaps look fluid and natural, I rehearsed my grip in front of the mirror for ages, making sure the wrist bore weight evenly to avoid shaking halfway through the shoot.
Lighting inside the Changsha ACC exhibition hall that day was quite challenging—overhead venue illumination was somewhat chaotic and occasionally cast odd shadows across the face. Fortunately, photographer Yanhuo is seasoned, and we scouted several relatively bright spots infused with a lively convention atmosphere. To highlight the impact of the scepter and flatter my bodily silhouette, I explored diverse postures: for instance, slightly bending forward while bracing the weapon with both hands as in Photo 1, shifting my center of gravity onto the back leg, engaging the core, pulling the shoulders back, and casting a slightly defiant, playful glance toward the camera. This pose tests core stamina, yet best accentuates the advantages of a cropped midriff fit. Leaning forward from alternative angles or planting the staff vertically offered contrasting styles—the key lies in keeping shoulders relaxed and arms extended.
Traversing the convention throughout the day, the outfit was quite comfortable and easy to move in without cumbersome trailing fabrics. Meeting fellow fans who recognized the character to take photos and chat made for a truly wonderful community ambiance. As a cosplayer who frequently portrays this character, slipping into different wardrobe styles always feels like forging a new bond with her. This swimsuit styling retains instant character recognition while injecting relaxed summer ease—I highly recommend giving it a try at summer conventions. Given future opportunities, I plan to bring this signature weapon to diverse outdoor locations, hoping to unveil even more multifaceted dimensions of the character.
