Coincidentally, during the early discussions for this Furina cosplay photo shoot, we wanted to practice subtraction. While the Archon's attire in the game is undeniably gorgeous, wouldn't switching to a refreshing blue-and-white sailor suit outfit, combined with her iconic ahoge, better reflect the character's everyday side? Thus, we conceived this outfit dominated by white and accented with light blue.
The entire shoot took place in the plaza in front of an outdoor European-style building, and the most satisfying part was the natural light at sunset. The backlight from the setting sun hit the ahoge on top of my head just right, forming a fluffy halo. For post-processing, I mainly adjusted the parameters for dark areas and shadows to prevent the highlights of the sunset from overexposing, while preserving a clean, translucent skin tone and intentionally retaining some of the environment's texture for this backlit photography set.
For props, we prepared a black box, a long staff with a blue satin ribbon, and my leather shoes taken off and left to the side. The addition of the blue ribbon was purely to create a sense of visual fluidity in the frame. To make the ribbon form a beautiful arc in the air or naturally wrap around my feet, we had to repeatedly capture dynamic snapshots to record the best moment where lines, light, and shadow collide. Stepping barefoot on the stone pavement could also be seen as adding a touch of casual and unconstrained emotion to the entire image.
Among the four photos, there are dynamic leaping moments as well as quiet times sitting on the box to rest. I feel that casual cosplay isn't just about restoring a character through clothing; it also requires finding a form of expression that suits the character based on different environments. The light, shadow, and composition of these images fit this relaxed vibe perfectly, and I hope to convey the coziness of basking in the sun and taking a stroll by the roadside.
