The most striking feature of Illustrious's Ghost girl design in Azur Lane is the visual contrast between pure white and dark accents. I prepared this outfit for quite a while. To faithfully recreate the smooth, second-skin fit of 2D illustrations, I deliberately selected a high-stretch fabric with a subtle sheen. It has wonderful drape, but the downside is that it is totally unforgiving on body silhouettes—any minor crease or underwear line gets magnified by the lens. Because of this, I wore seamless undergarments and smoothed out the hemline repeatedly before leaving, ensuring the overall silhouette looked smooth and seamless.
Putting on the ghost headpiece, I found the combination of black ovals and small pink dots at the top extraordinarily adorable. To anchor it securely, I reinforced the interior with an invisible hair net and shaping wire so it wouldn't shift during poses. The hair is a long, straight white wig—very sleek, yet prone to tangling—so I generously applied detangling wig spray and teased the ends slightly to let them drape naturally over my shoulders and chest. The black lace along the shoulders is stitched directly onto the garment to provide a visual break, preventing an expanse of white from looking monotonous. The blue gem necklace against the white fabric stands out prominently, serving as a focal point. Accenting my fingers with crimson nail polish introduced a pop of vivid color amidst the black-and-white canvas.
Since I skipped full face makeup today, I opted for mirror selfies with my phone concealing my face. This not only saved editing time but also layered in an aura of mystery. Posing for mirror selfies is all about posture: standing stiff makes you look flat like a wooden board, losing all body curves. I turned slightly sideways, stepped one foot forward while shifting my weight back, raised my phone with one hand to dial in the best angle, and lightly pinched the edge of my sleeve or cape with the other to let the fabric spread naturally. Keeping your shoulders back and engaging your arms accentuates the collarbone and naturally lifts the bust line. The indoor warm yellow lighting cast a soft glow on the white fabric, though adjusting exposure compensation was necessary to avoid blown-out highlights.
Regarding chubby cosplay proportions, I believe a fuller figure is actually an advantage in a bodycon skirt like this. I used to chase extreme thinness through strict dieting, only to find the resulting shots looked gaunt and lacked presence. This form-fitting dress embraces the natural curves of the waist and hips, projecting health and visual impact. Before shooting, I gently engaged my core and straightened my posture so the garment hugged every contour without looking strained. Embracing natural curves and subtle fullness helps break through the 2D boundary and brings the character to life.
The Ghost girl concept carries a whimsical, charming aesthetic, so I matched my gestures accordingly, such as lifting my arms and holding the fabric to create a light, floating effect. Wearing this outfit confirmed that while it looks stunning, mobility is severely restricted—I could only take tiny steps and had to sit down carefully to avoid stubborn wrinkles. Changing out of it was an immense relief. Yet seeing the soft, alluring contours and the striking black-and-white contrast in the final images made every preparation worthwhile. This shoot united the character's traits with my own physique to deliver satisfying results, hopefully offering inspiration for anyone interested in similar styling and photo tips.
