[Komeiji Koishi Cosplay] Mint Green Vintage Framing for Touhou Project's Koishi Day

Today is May 14th, which is what everyone calls Koishi Day. Choosing to release these Komeiji Koishi photos on this day serves as an echo to the character.

The keywords for this shoot are nostalgia and fantasy. Komeiji Koishi has very distinct visual symbols, and to restore them in reality, the texture of the costume and props becomes highly important. The black hat prepared this time uses a large amount of stiff lace around the edges, patched with small blue and white flowers, and paired with that woven colorful rope, beautifully restoring the character's aura of drifting outside reality. The large purple hydrangea on the chest and that reflective bright purple ball are the visual focus of the entire styling, bringing jumping colors into the overall dominant green and white color scheme.

What satisfies me most is the old-fashioned push-button telephone in my hand. This prop adds a layer of vintage filter to the entire frame. During the shoot, I experimented with interactions under different states, such as holding the receiver to my ear to listen, or casually holding it in my arms, attempting to express that subtle sense of Komeiji Koishi seemingly communicating, but her frequency might not be in the same space as everyone else. The studio photographer Mr. Heicha BlackX gave me a lot of guidance in capturing snapshots, employing a vast area of off-white solid color background combined with the reflective mirror surface underneath to create a clean yet dreamlike atmosphere.

In terms of styling, the long curly hair this time adopts mint green, paired with matching colored contact lenses, making the gaze look clear yet carrying a touch of innocent, ethereal quality. The makeup wasn't done too heavily, with the focus placed on emphasizing the contours of the eyes, cooperating with a slightly blood-toned lip makeup to make the overall complexion look more vibrant and lively. For the costume tailoring, besides the classic ruffled cuffs of the top, this dark green pleated miniskirt is also of paramount importance. The white vine rose embroidery details on the skirt are very rich, and paired with the black round-toe Mary Jane shoes and white lace short socks on the feet, it enhances the overall Lolita style and girlish vibe. To add a bit of clever thinking, I also specially added light purple plush balls and purple straps at the ankles, so that even when sitting, rich visual layers can be transmitted through the clothing details.

From the perspective of taking photos, to match the character's personality, I tried my best to avoid deliberately striking grand-gesture poses, maintaining a relaxed, lazy but still cute state. I especially love the composition of sitting casually on a white low stool, which can clearly display the curves of the legs and the details of the socks, while naturally revealing a touch of casual, slight sweetness unique to young girls. Since it was shot in a professional studio photoshoot styling setup, the lighting was highly even, expressing the fabric textures on the clothes and the pleats of the skirt hem very clearly, making it a highly accurate production.

To present this character, the mint green wig is of utmost importance. The color saturation chosen this time is just right, and combined with a clear base makeup and relatively rounded double eyelines, it creates the character's sense of aloofness of looking at the camera but seeming to look through the lens into the distance. The vintage old-fashioned telephone in my hand is a plus for the entire match. During the interaction process of the shoot, I tried different supporting hand shapes, attempting to make the 2D character look more alive in 3D photos.

It's particularly worth mentioning the mirror reflection effect on the floor, which mirrors the white cylindrical stool, black Mary Jane shoes, and purple leg straps together, increasing the visual depth and spatial sense of the frame. In the sitting pose, I especially considered the display of leg lines, making the overall proportions appear more slender through the visual extension brought by the purple straps at the ankle. This costume's black lace trims at the neckline, cuffs, and skirt hem were all sewn on by hand, showing that a lot of thought went into the details. Although I was constantly adjusting the skirt hem and hat during the shooting process, seeing the final cuts makes me feel all the hard work was well worth it. I am very glad to showcase Komeiji Koishi's unique charm hidden behind that immortal girlish sense through the freeze-frame of the lens for this Touhou cosplay.
