[Komeiji Koishi cosplay] That Touch of Cyan-Blue and Secret Flowers in Touhou Project

Preparing for this Komeiji Koishi cosplay look began several days in advance with organizing details. Today I finally had time in the studio to bring the concept to life, and the overall effect matched the fantasy and mystery of Touhou Project even better than expected. The visual highlight of this costume lies in the rich color contrast and material stitching. The primary color scheme consists of deep black and dark green, supplemented by striking cyan-blue hair and a circular ribbon structure on the hat, accented with gold-trimmed textures to give the overall look rich layering under dim light.

The flower branch wand held in hand is one of the soul props for this shoot. The blue sphere has a great texture, and paired with the small pink and white flowers at the top, it echoes beautifully with the surrounding solid-colored bouquet. During filming, the photographer blended foreground focus and blur, scattering vivid red, blue, and pink flowers before the lens to create a Floral vibe as if standing in a secret garden.

Because the lore of Komeiji Koishi portrays her as an Unconscious girl with an elusive, floating presence, we didn't use overly heavy eye makeup. Instead, we opted for a clear, light base paired with vibrant red lips, highlighting the clarity and composure in her gaze against the dark backdrop. The blue ring on the hat heavily tested wearing stability; before shooting, we repeatedly adjusted its mounting angle to ensure a crisp outline against the hat brim in both high and low shots without being obscured by hair.

A lot of thought went into the skirt hem as well. The outer layer is dark green sheer tulle with lace trim and sequins, while the inner layer is a dark base. Cascading blue-green roses matching the tone were stacked on the skirt, adding weight to the bottom of the frame in distant ground shots so the character doesn't look too thin. The studio environment featured a pure black background complemented by a striking diagonal red background panel and widely scattered flowers. This high-contrast environment tested the lighting technician's mastery of light and shadow. We added sufficient front fill light to preserve facial skin tones and gold costume details while leaving shadows in the background to highlight the blue ring structure on her head.

We tried many angles during filming; the shot you see now is from a high-angle perspective, perfectly capturing the depth between top props and foreground blossoms. The wand naturally intersects with the chest line, forming a visual focal point. The overall process took considerable time on detail control—for example, styling the wig so the cyan layers wouldn't look overly green or greasy under strong lights, which required using dry powder during prep for de-shining. Once in the studio, the photographer had a very clear plan, quickly capturing that quiet, independent, slightly turned-away feel of the character.

This set retains many elements I personally love: the vividness of the flowers, the weight of the attire, and the exquisite details of the props. In doing Character photography for cosplay with a distinct original style, the most enjoyable moment is surrendering oneself to the character. Although standing in small heels for a long time was tiring, seeing the final shots in the viewfinder brought a great sense of accomplishment. The creative vision and execution went exceptionally smoothly, and everyone's seamless teamwork made the shoot both professional and relaxed. If time permits in the future, I'd love to try portraying this character in other environments, like an open natural setting, which would surely feel completely different.

The stability of the hat and headpiece was particularly crucial throughout, as even a slight tilt would break the character's unique sense of balance, so we adjusted the wig and brim position every few minutes in the studio. Looking at the foreground flowers in the frame, arranging those vivid faux flowers on set was actually quite tedious—ensuring they didn't obscure facial contours while establishing layered depth. The photographer paced back and forth adjusting composition while I tweaked my posture to match his perspective shifts.

What satisfied me most was the expression in the eyes. Although the lore specifies her eyes are always closed, in static Character photography, we needed to simulate that sensory detachment from the outside world through slightly lowered eyelashes and a focused stillness. This shoot also gave me a fresh appreciation for prop textures; the blue sphere on the wand reflected light perfectly under strong lamps, adding a magical aura to the frame. In post-processing, we deliberately preserved fabric creases and lace dimension without over-smoothing, giving the photos a realistic charm. The entire process from prep to publication was filled with respect for Touhou Project's original lore, and capturing the character's quiet yet mysterious essence through the lens was a deeply fulfilling experience.
