[Reimu Hakurei Cosplay] Photo Shoot of the Red and white shrine maiden Under Night Blossoms

Finding a shooting spot for this Night cherry blossom photography was truly challenging. The surrounding trees were so tall that even with a ladder, we couldn't reach the ideal flowering branches. Fortunately, I found a spot with very low branches hanging right at the perfect shooting height, saving a lot of effort.

This shoot features Reimu Hakurei from Touhou Project, wearing the Red and white shrine maiden outfit. The entire costume is rich in details, such as the abundant white lace along the collar and cuffs, red ties, an oversized red bow hair accessory, and the red ribbons trailing down both sides. This red-and-white color palette is striking against the dark night scenery, though it also increased the shooting difficulty by demanding precise exposure control.

To match the theme, I prepared a Fox mask and talismans to enhance interaction with the environment during the shoot. This type of theme has extremely high demands on ambient lighting—the contrast between the cherry blossoms and trees at night is sharp, and ambient light is quite complex. Using a wide-aperture lens to increase light intake and utilizing foreground branches for layering produced gorgeous bokeh. To make the face look clear and translucent, using a reflector was also crucial.

As for posing, to make the best use of the low branches, low-angle shooting was the ideal choice to capture the feeling of being right beneath the blossoms. Overhead shots lying on the ground looked beautiful but were physically demanding. The hard floor and heavy hanging branches often obscured my face, requiring repeated adjustments to place both face and body in optimal positions. Additionally, due to the strong nighttime breeze and fluctuating light, we had to wait for the exact moment the wind paused to press the shutter. It was truly a highly technical creative experience.
