[Vivian cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero: A Corporate Worker's Melancholic Weekend

This set of photos was actually born after a string of late-night bouts of insomnia. Having to work on a Sunday is an agony only those who have lived it can truly understand; tossing and turning unable to sleep, my mind consumed by the philosophical interrogation of why humans have to work in the first place. London itself could hardly rival my melancholy—this sense of working-class powerlessness is something even the most immaculate makeup cannot conceal.

Circling back to this Vivian cosplay styling from Zenless Zone Zero. As you can tell from the pictures, I poured immense effort into the styling nuances. To flawlessly recreate the character's signature Elf ear makeup and styling, I chose soft-touch resin ears with meticulously cleaned edges, blending them seamlessly into the facial skin using sheer concealer. The wig was a long, curly light-purple piece retaining the original design's white frosted bangs; to combat the drafty wind corridors in the convention halls, I sprayed half a can of hairspray just to barely maintain that buoyant yet tangle-free volume. For eye makeup, to match Vivian's crimson gaze, beyond wearing custom red contact lenses, I deepened the blending at the outer corners and brushed a soft layer of holographic violet across the lower lids, striving to let mystery bleed through an aloof exterior.

Wardrobe-wise, this outfit rigorously tests one's figure. The inner layer is a white long-sleeved shirt with vintage ruffled cuffs, layered with a charcoal gray vest and an intensely cinched black leather corset. While this tight leather corset accentuates waistlines dramatically, it brings literal, physical suffocation; to squeeze into it, I essentially grazed on salads for three days prior to the shoot. The pleated tiers of the skirt are vivid, with navy pleats and metal chains looking stunning under lights, but the sheer weight was shocking—hauling these accessories across a convention hall all day was an absolute workout.

The shooting environment on site was quite demanding. The convention hall was flooded with harsh overhead lights, easily casting unflattering shadows beneath the eyes. Fortunately, photographer Fusang is an expert at working with light. We found a spot with abundant circular ceiling lights in the backdrop, leveraging a wide aperture to blur them into gorgeous circular bokeh. The first sequence used the translucent umbrella: when tilting my head up slightly, the ribs and canopy acted as a natural bounce card, casting soft fill light onto my face. The candid snapshot capturing the twirl with the umbrella—the sweeping arc of the flying skirt hem and purple locks—is my absolute favorite frame of the set. Later, switching to the black polearm weapon prop, holding my chin in one hand was shot for a long time as I continuously adjusted my gaze, hunting for an expression that balanced cold detachment with subtle scrutiny.

Every Anime cosplay endeavor is an intensely draining creative process. From early costume sorting and wig styling to fine-tuning day-of makeup and holding poses amidst drafty chills, every step demands undivided focus. Yet when you see a character that once existed only in the 2D realm stand tangibly before you in real light and shadow, that transcendent resonance across dimensions is undeniably addictive. This set is a breath of fresh air carved out from the monotony of daily work life. Alright, time to close my laptop and brace myself for tomorrow's morning meeting.
