This cosplay photoshoot was completed in an industrial-style concrete stairwell. The overall lighting was very dim, with only a beam of cool-toned natural light filtering in from the top window.
In terms of costume, the white shirt needed to be crisp, paired with a black tie, a multi-layered tactical corset, and the iconic high-waist pleated skirt. The metal buckles and straps at the waist look decorative, but their positions actually needed to be specifically adjusted when walking or posing to avoid affecting the center of gravity.
This long katana prop is actually very heavy. Because it had to accommodate both a mechanical-style paint job and the overall length, holding it in hand heavily tested my wrist strength. Therefore, during the shoot, I had to constantly pay attention to the posture of my arms and shoulders to present an effortless, light-as-a-feather look. To match the character's temperament, I specially emphasized the sharpness of my eye makeup to make my gaze look more piercing and fierce.
During the shoot, the photographer used a low-angle, looking-up perspective throughout. Combined with the depth of the industrial staircase and the lines of the metal railings, it elongated the visual proportions beautifully, creating a commanding and oppressive aura. Although this angle demands strict expression control, for this type of combat-oriented character, it is precisely the angle that best embodies the character's presence.
For the details, I reinforced the animal ears on top of my head twice, because the root of the ears could easily shake during the shoot when repeatedly tilting or turning my head, or leaning my body. At the same time, the high black ponytail and over-the-shoulder bangs needed to be groomed frequently to maintain a sharp silhouette in the backlit environment.
Rather than simply chasing good looks, this time I wanted to express more of the character's sense of power and responsibility within her composure. No flamboyant movements were needed; a pose standing with the sword cradled, a sideward glance, or an exchange of gazes with the weapon resting on the shoulder could convey that steadfast conviction. To present this texture, we specially shot during the blue hour around dusk. The cool-toned filters, combined with the raw concrete walls and anti-slip steel stairs, meant that almost no post-production special effects were needed—the raw photos already carried a strong sense of storytelling.
This photoshoot captures both the tension of being poised for battle and the relaxation of a brief pause in the stairwell. I hope this Anime-style photography set, featuring strong mechanical vibes and uniform elements, can bring everyone a slightly different visual experience. Every time I search for a suitable abandoned industrial scene for an outdoor shoot, it is an exploration; using a real physical environment to back up the character's setting is often far more impactful than a pure studio shoot.
